should I set them as screen?

Well, you can do what you want with them, but I usually use screen or lighten. Or sometimes just lower the opacity. That depends on the look you want to get of course. For the first icon in example I used 'screen' and I used a soft rounded brush (size around 70, I can't remember exactly) to delete the center so the landscape was clear of any blurs.
