Please make some sort of spoiler thread, coz when I browsed the lounge just now, I was completely caught of guard and spoiled for the newest SPN episode, that I haven't had the chance to see yet, and it completely ruined the entire episode for me, NOT cool! D: I didn't think I had to be cautious for spoilers in secret community :(((
Oh, of it is landofart my "issue" (such a harsh word, but idk which other to use) with the community has nothing to do with the fact that it's open to non-elite participation or anything. i can't speak for every elite maker out there, but i just know for me personally - has nothing to do with elite vs non elite.
I hear you, anon. I felt pretty aloof from the icon community as community for a while and now it's slowly but surely starting to change - why? Because I simply go and talk to people. I joined more communities. And instead of just lurking, I'm trying to make an effort to comment more. Like right now. :)
Also I found that everybody is just incredibly open and nice and wonderful. I felt so awkward when I asked a couple of iconmakers that I adore if they might wanna be friends, but they were all so great about it.
And I said, I'm just starting... but I feel so much more involved already!
So just go out there and don't be shy! :D Good luck!
Hey, so this is kinda random but I'm going to take this opportunity to ask if you want to be friends? I've seen you around a lot, and like you I've been making an effort to be more outgoing here in the icon community! Anyway, you seem super nice, so let me know if you'd like to be friends! :)
I try not to see this too sceptically, because even the best makers have insecurities about their stuff. Also I know from my expierience that my icons that I don't like often are people's favorites. It always comes as a complete surprise to me how people can like that.
So I think most of the time it's a genuine fear.
But I wish they'd stop saying it anyway. In fact I don't like it when anybody says it, no matter how popular or good they are.
People have a right to be insecure and most if not all are at some point. I agree that it probably isn't the best to stress or reiterate those insecurities as that tends to solidify them or further the overthinking problem that comes with icons/the internet, but having doubts about your work doesn't mean fishing for compliments/attention.
That's actually the reason why I always feel weird when I like how my icons turned out and I write what my favourite icons are at the beginning of my entry, because I'm a little proud. Why should I like my own icons when popular makers seem to hate their icons?
