Colouring Tutorial - Black & White to Full Colour

I have finally made it after this was requested a long time ago.

Might be a bit image heavy.

To start off you need to find a black and white picture you wish to colour. I used this one.
I opened the picture in Adobe Photoshop CS and cropped it, copied it and pasted it into a new file. First i used the blur tool set to 10% to smooth out her skin.

Next i added a new layer and filled it with #E65F67, set the layer to overlay at 61% opacity. I erased everything except her dress. I added another layer with #710012 and i did the same to the layer but i set it at lighten to 31% opacity.

I then added another layer again with #710012 and set it to darken at 5%, and erased everything but the dress.

Next i added yet another layer with #710012 to darken, 31% opacity but this time i erased everything except the bottom frilly part of the skirt.

I added another layer and filled it with #51C135, set the layer to soft light at 50% opacity.

At this point in the tutorial you can merge all the layers together if you'd like.

Next i moved onto the lips. Adding a new layer i filled it with #D80059 and erased everything but the lips and set it to soft light, 100%. And then onto the eyes, i filled a new layer with #97D6FB erased everything but the iris of each eye and set it to multiply, 100%. (you can make the eyes look natural in any colour by using a bright version of the colour and then set to multiply).

Next onto the skin, adding a new layer in #FBFF52, soft light, 49% erasing everything but the hair and skin (don't forget the eyes and mouth! as it changes the colour)

A new layer, #C99C7B set to color, 56% this time erasing everything but the skin. (remembering the hair, eyes and mouth!) And to make her skin look brighter i added #E0CDBE in a new layer, set it to soft light, 65% and erased the dress but left it on the hair, eyes and mouth.

I added a new layer, filled it with #351A01, multiply 23% and erased everything but the hair. I duplicated that layer, then added another layer with #351A01, color 23% and erased everything but the hair.

And for the final touches i added a layer of black on darken, erased everything but around the eyes to add more eyeliner, and i added a layer of green and erased everything but the braclets.

And then your done!

Show me how yours go! And remember be original, don't copy it exactly!
