i am still failing to see the point of password locking textures, etc. all i see is someone who is so obsessed with getting comments (because some people don't) that they force people into it by saying 'comment for the password ( Read more... )

hmmmm....I understand the makers because once I posted texture set
and there're 400 views but the comments weren't that much

but I never think about password protected

Yeah, I know what you mean. And maybe it's just me, but wouldn't you like, get annoyed with replying to all the comments with the password? Seems like a lot more work. B[

I agree with you 100%. Password protected textures are lame.

I don't care how ~*amazing*~ the textures are, if I don't feel like commenting I'm not going to.

Great. You download the textures and don't say anything, not even thanks.
That's exactely why people are doing this and now I know why.

I do sometimes but sometimes I just don't.

I have people that use my icons without commenting and I don't expect them to. It's... really not that big a deal.

If that's fine with your icons - ok.
I'm also not that fussy about textures, but some are( and I really just mean those who don't cut the ffffound images) and I think that's also fine and right.
Since it's really not that big deal typing ten letters in a few seconds I don't see where the problem is.

It's annoying me too. Sometimes I feel forced. But honestly, they're happen to be people(except those who just cut images from ffffound.) who spend time making textures and would like to see a simple thank you.

Yes, it is about collecting comments, but IMHO it is no big deal saying thanks. It won't take you ten seconds. But sometimes this is just too much for people.

it is no big deal to say thank you. it's a big deal to require a password though because there is absolutely no need unless you are desperate for the recognition/comments to feel special or something.

That's the problem, not everybody says thank you. Alright, I guess it would be really exagerrated for anyone to hope every single downloader says thanks. But I just mean that I understand those who pwprotect their stuff since they have 30 comments and 400 downloads. I don't want to analyze those peoples mind, it's about getting comments or praise. The end.
I just understand this attitude(again those ffffound people are an exception, they have no reason to do this).

no, they don't and that sucks, but at the same i think about my icons and yeah, comments rock but that is not why i make icons and it shouldn't be why anyone does any of this. they are 100 by 100 boxes and nothing that should be password protected imo. i guess i just don't understand an attitude that would make art/icons/textures for the praise/comment numbers to go up.
