Manga Colorization Tutorial

How to go from this to
or
in PS7.

First, the big thing when it comes to manga coloring is setting your paint bucket tool settings correctly. The link is how I have mine set. When coloring, play with the Tolerance to get the desired layered look. For example, on 32 Tolerancy, you'll fill in more areas, despite the different colors they are. The less defined the lines are in your image, the less you'll want the tolerancy to be, because at a higer level, the paint will overrun your lines.

Once you've chosen your colors, set the Opacity of the paint to 50% or lower. You can darken/brighten it later if desired, but at the 50% opacity, it's easier to get the right tone you'd want.

You can play with the colors as much as you want to get the desired colorization. For colors in this, some of the main are
Light Blue (for the sky): #B8DAF2
Tan (for the sand): #AWA359
Peach (for the skin): #E2D3AF

Now, if you'd like to make your colors more vivid, duplicate the base layer, and set to Linear Burn. Then, I set the Linear Burn layer to 50% Opacity because I didn't want the image as dark.

Merge the layers and Crop to 100x100. You can leave it here, and add text/brushes if you'd like.

Add an Exculsion layer in the color #040427.

Add this gradient, set on overlay.

Add this light texture, (from here) set on screen

Add this light texture (from here) on screen.

Duplicate the base layer, move to top, and set to soft light.

Merge layers, add text, text brush by terra_katta, and accent brush by ingen0us.

If you have any questions, let me know. :D Good luck with your creations!
