Tutorial 01

Before-

After-

In just a few easy steps :) It looks long but that's really cause I'm making the steps short. I'm using PSP8 but this should be easily translatable into PS or an earlier or later version of PSP. There are about five 100x100 images on the page with the actual tutorial, so I think it'll be alright for the dial up users.

REMEMBER THAT THIS IS ONLY A TUTORIAL AND YOU SHOULD NEVER COPY IT EXACTLY. Tutorials are mainly for experimenting =]

First of all, I shall be using this screencap from
teh_indy - http://hp.indilime.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=1834. Open up your graphics program and we'll be ready to start!

1. Resize your image and crop it to 100x100.

2. Duplicate the background layer (the first image) twice. Set the first layer (the layer directly above Background layer) to Screen at 66%, and the layer above Screen to Burn at 16%.

3. Now make a new raster layer and fill it with black, and set it to Burn at 14%.

4. Duplicate the Burn layer and set it to Softlight at 100%.

5. Duplicate the Softlight layer and set it to Screen at 32%.

6. Make a new raster layer and fill it with #160B47. Set it to Exclusion at around 74%.

At the moment, my image now looks like this:

But it looks really ehhh - there's nothing special about it right now, so now we're going to add effects.

7. Merge all of your layers.

8. Create a new raster layer, fill it with black, and set the layer mode to "Color (L)".

9. Now, paste this texture by
77words as a new layer:

Set it to Screen at 100%. Now rotate, flip, erase etc. your layer until it's covering a little of Ron's face, like this (however, this is only an example of how it's supposed to show on the face, not how it looks on Screen mode):

Make sure that there are no obvious lines left when you erase because that looks reallllllllllllly ugly when you brighten it a little.
Now duplicate the layer and set it to Soft Light - 100%.

10. Now make a new raster layer and set it to a beigeish color and set it to multiply - 100%.

11. Merge all your layers.

12. Paste this brush as a new image (it is by
yumie_k)

Take your Ron image and paste it as a new layer over the brush, and set the effect to "Lighten". Move it around as much as you want until you find the position that's right for you. When you're done with that, merge all layers and sharpen.

13. For the last and final step, I made a new raster layer. I took the font Windsong (http://www.dafont.com/windsong.font) and typed "starlight" in size 10, common/lowercase letters. Then I went to selection > select none, making the dotted lines go away from the font. Then I set the layer to "screen", and moved the words next to Ron's face. Merge all layers again, and guess what? YOU'RE DONE!!!!

Please post what you guys got if you try my tutorial, I would LOVE to see what you came up with! :)
