My first PS7 tutorial

for this icon:

1. Choose your cap. I used this cap courtesy of castledracula.

2. Crop your cap any way you see fit and then sharpen it.

3. Go to file and create a new 100x100 image with the background set to white.

4. Create a new layer set to normal, 100% opacity, color none.

5. Using color 3C521D I applied this brush
by freak_icons on the base. On top of that brush in the same color, apply this brush
, also by freak_icons near the bottom of the icon so only the top is seen. Again, on top of those brushes in the same color, apply this brush
by miggy. This is the finished base:
Rename that layer “brush layer”.

6. Copy your cropped base and place it above your brush layer. Rename it Gil.

7. Duplicate your brush layer, drag it above the Gil layer. Erase the area over Gil’s face and the handle of the hammer and set the layer to Color Burn at 70% opacity.

8. Create a new layer above. Apply this
gradient by crumblingwalls and set it to Vivid Light at 100% opacity.

9. Duplicate that layer and set it to Soft Light 100% opacity.

10. Duplicate the bush layer copy (step 7, the color burn layer) and set it to Linear Burn 100% opacity.

11. Above that layer, create a new layer. Using the right side of the Soft Round 300 Pixel brush in PS, apply it to the layer using color 620B0B. I placed the farthest part of the right arc on the tip of Gil’s nose and clicked once.

12. Create a new Layer, Normal, 100% opacity. In color CEBA9E, apply this brush
(again, if anyone knows the maker). Go to Edit>Transform>Rotate 90 CCW. Erase everything above the dark part. Then erase a slight bit from the bottom so there’s a small, cloudy patch at the bottom.

13. Duplicate that layer.

14. Time for text. Use the BitOut font at 6 pt in color EFEEE9. First text layer is: Welcome to my wicked world

15. Create a new text layer with the same settings. Next text line is: Where people kill each other

ETA: Text is not actually meant to be read. Just for visual effects.

16. New layer. Normal, 100%. Using these brushes by icons_with_love apply some blood splotches wherever you’d like in color 620B0B.

17. Create a new layer and with a 13 pt soft round brush in 780F0F, color over the front of the head of the hammer. Erase any overlapping color and set it to Hue. Duplicate that layer.

18. Almost done.

19. New layer. 100%, normal. Use this
gradient by crumblingwalls and set it to Overlay.

20. New layer. 100%, normal. Add a 1 px border brush and you’re done.

Here is the final result:
