program: photoshop elements 2.0
level: medium

should be translatable, i haven't used PSP in like two years. :P

its been at LEAST a year and a half since i've made a tutorial with my old name, happyconfusion7 so bare with me if i don't explain things @_@

well, first we must start off with our lovely picture of mister Alex Varkatzas.

eh, i don't like the original colouring.
so what i did was
1.) layer -- duplicate layer. and set the layer to screen, at 60 % .
you should now have something like this:

this way it's lighter so what we do next doesnt look as weird...
don't flatten the image yet! make sure your screen looks like this:

2.) Go to Layer -- New -- Layer.
fill it with a dark brown, preferrably something like #33220B.
next, set the layer to Pin Light, at 40% opacity.
so far we have this:

and your screen should look like this:

3.)Okay now that we have that dowwnnnnnn.
Click on your original layer, duplicate it, drag it to the top, and set the layer to to Soft Light 100%
:)
now, it should look like this !

4.) Now, click on Layer -- Flatten Image.
and go to Image -- Resize -- Image Size and make sure the resolution is at 72, and resize to 80 x 51. Go to Select -- all And hit Ctrl C to copy the little Alex.
Yay, now Alex is small!
it should look like this:

5.) The next step is to make it an icon!
Create a new canvas.
Go to File -- New.Make sure it's 100 x 100, resolution 72, and its WHITE.
Now paste the smaller picture onto the white canvas and move it to the left, or the side, wherever you want it.
Now press Ctrl and click on the layer of the picture.
And!!
Edit -- Stroke and make a 3 px stroke aligned to center. make sure its a light brown color [like # DDCCBA] and click ok!
now you should have this:

stroke again. this time, 1 px, and dark brown.
don't flatten the image!

6.) Find a texture, somewhere..one you like..
i used this

texture by? girlboheme, copy and paste it onto your little Alex picture, and set the texture layer to Lighten at 60%.
Now you have this!

7.) Using your handy - dandy smudging tool

make sure settings are at : 12 px, strength 56 % mode: normal
smudge the sides of the picture out to the right...until its how you like.
make it look cool.

the end product should look like this:

i'd like to see whatever you come up with if you use it :P

if you have any questions, please ask!
