Okay so this is my first ever tutorial...and probs my last depending on how much i stress out whilst writing it!! I use PSPX but its probs translateable!! We're gonna create this:
I'm gonna try and recreate the icon below!!! I so wish i’d saved the psp version!! ~sigh~

1) Okays so first of all i cropped the pic and resized to 100x100. oh and i don’t sharpen til i merge all layers.
2) Duplicate base and set to screen at opacity 75%
3) Duplicate base, drag to top and set to soft light at opacity 90%
4) Create a new raster layer, set to burn and floodfill with a bright light blue. I used #78d9f6
5) Create a new raster layer, set to burn and floodfill with a light tan(ish). I used #c6b89c
6) Create a new raster layer, set to exclusion and floodfill with dark navy blue. I used #080e20
7) Merge all layers
8) I then sharpen by using an unsharp mask. Adjust-Sharpness-Unsharp Mask. These are my settings: Radius - 1.00, Strength - 75, Clipping - 7
9) We now select the selection tool, make sure the selection type is circle. And create a circle!
10) Copy, and paste and you should get a circle of the pic (does that make sense?). Move it to wherever looks best on your icon, in my case its the right hand side, just below the middle.
11) Okays now i create a new raster layer, set to screen and drag it beneath the circle layer, i take this brush
(eeek can’t remeber who’s it is!) size 65, colour #78dff6 and stamp it in the centre of the circle. You should have a nice glow all around the circle now!
12) Create a new raster layer, drag it just above the screen brush layer and using the brush belo by omg_pretty in white, stamp it wherever looks best on your icon. Mine was right of the circle.
13)Merge all layers....and you’re done!!! Finally! Lol! Oh and obviously every pic is different so you’ll probs have to play with the opacitys of the layers, and if the pics dark you might want a couple of screen layers. Whatever works best for your icon.
Heres my end result:
And heres the orginal:
Pretty close right!!
I’d love to see what you come up with!!! And also if anyone has any tips on how to make this tut better..i’d love to hear!!
