Another coloring tutorial...

My second tutorial here. It isn't too complicated, although it does involve one curves layer, which I think I explain pretty well.

Using Photoshop CS.

Go from this:

in eight easy steps.



1. Start with base.



2. Sharpen to taste. Duplicate layer once, set to screen. Duplicate layer again and set to softlight:



3. Create new layer, flood fill with #E8BC8B:



Set the layer to multipy:



4. Create another new layer, flood fill it with #7DA7D9:



Set the layer to soft light:



5. Create a new layer and flood fill it with #001539:



Set the layer to exclusion:



6. Duplicate the base layer, bring it to the top and set it to softlight:



7. Create a new adjustment curves layer. (Layer, New Adjusment Layer, Curves). Change the channel to RED, click to make a POINT and use the following settings:

Input: 102
Output: 137

Screen should look like this: CLICK FOR SETTINGS.

Your icon should now look like this:



8. Create a new layer and set it to screen. Select a soft brush (I used soft round 100 pixels) and this color #790000:



Using that brush and color, click once over the image. I used it slightly to the right of his face for this final effect:



And that's it! Finished product!
