Tutorial #8: Full Repeating, D.N. Angel

Another full icon tutorial for PS 7. This one is slightly more difficult, with more steps. Mostly just for this style. I made this icon a long time ago (as in several months) so it might not be perfect. My counting was off; my last tutorial was acutally my 7th. Hehe. Oops.

--->

I started with this base, cut from an image from Anime Visions.

Then make a layer underneath that base. I used this texure by inxsomniax.

Then make your base invisible by clicking the eye on the layer palette. Then I made a Color Balance Adjustment Layer. The only thing I did was on Midtones, I upped the Red to +100. Make sure this is UNDER the base layer.

Make your base image visible again. Now using the, Rectangular Marquee Tool, cut out the two guys faces. Marquee the area you want, go to Select>>Inverse, and click Delete.

Now Marquee the lower guy. Just marquee the same area you did before. Copy and paste it onto a new layer. Move it down like so.

Do the same for the top guy. Marquee the same area, copy and paste on a new layer. Put it right below the first one.

I then cut those a little smaller than the first by marqueeing the area I didn't want, and pressing Delete. The top one I extended just a little bit, but not enough to stretch his face. Then I made another Color Balance Adjustment Layer.

Then I made a Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer and clicked the Monochrome box. I set that layer to 62% opacity.

Now for the boxes. I started with one across the middle, using #D0818F. Set it to 85% opacity.

Then I made one below the bottom image, using the same color. Set to 82% opacity.

Lastly, I made one going down across the top guy's hair. Same color, 82% opacity.

Then I typed the word 'STAY' in Georgia. Eh..I'm not sure how big. Sorry. =/ I rasterized the layer (right-click on the layer in the palette and click Rasterize Layer). Then I took the Marquee tool again and selected the bottom half and deleted it. Set to 50% opacity.

Then, on the same layer, I used a tiny text brush by colofilter. Then I duplicated that layer twice.

For the last step, I selected the whole icon on a new layer, and Right-click>>Stroke at #000000.

And you're finished! Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. If you have any questions, please ask.
