A good way to get rid of the black bars is going to Menu > Pan & Scan > 16:9 Cropping. It's worked for me. :D

That's weird. It usually helps to have the aspect ratio fixed as well? Screen Control > auto select aspect ratio. *shrugs*

why not using Photoshop to crop it:D
I use Photoshop CS4
1:go to Import->Video frames to layer and type" *.* "on the search bar and press Enter
2:A new window opens and press Enter again
3:Go to Window->Animation if your Animation Window hasn't been opened
4:Crop it
5:Finish cropping go to File->Save for web and devices->Save
I hope it helps and my explaination isn't too hard to understand:D

I have Photoshop Elements 8 so I doubt this would work. I found another way to do it anyway. Thanks though!

You're right; PSE can't extract the frames. But it can animate them, and the quality if better than what you can get out of Gimp. It's a manual process that requires a bit of patience, but I can show you if you'd like.

omg how did you get kmplayer to allow you to take screencaps of a dvd? Whenever I've tried it, it says something about how it can't do it at a super speed or something.
