Scaling on GIMP

Sep 12, 2011 11:46

Hi. Its my 1st time posting here and I hope someone can help me. :)
When I scale down my image to make it 100x100 pixels on GIMP, it always changes to 100x101 or something like that. Why won't it let the image scale to just 100x100?
Thank You. :D

program: gimp

I think it's just the aspect ratio of the picture. I used to wonder this a lot, but I ended up just making a new 100x100 canvas and dragging the 100x101 picture into that frame instead. I personally think it's a lot easier and you risk screwing up the proportions less. ^^

Oh yes, it as the ratio. I'm gonna try what you said. Thanks. :D

When you're in the scale image dialogue box, make sure you unlink the little chain link on the side, that's what's making your numbers be like that.

The way I make 100*100 gifs in GIMP is to click on the crop icon in the toolbox, type in 100*100 (or a larger number for bigger pictures), make sure the drop down box that says "aspect ratio" still says "aspect ratio" and click the "fixed" box in front of that drop down box. As long as the fixed aspect ratio box is checked and your crop box is a square, you can enlarge and shrink the crop box to your desired size for an icon and then later, if your crop is larger than 100*100, resize it later.

You can also scale an image, unlock the chain dialog on the side and type in 100 and 100 in the height and width boxes like boomdiada suggested.

Instead of scaling to 100x100, try scaling WITH aspect ratio on and scale to about 140x whatever. Then open a new 100x100 image, paste the other one in and make it a new layer, place how you want, and scale a little bit more if necessary, but not much. I find this makes icons more cleaner and better cropped :)
