Is There A Way Around VLC?

Sep 19, 2010 14:07

I've been using the Mac version of VLC to make screencaps for a while now. However due to various bugs in the newer versions of the program, this function does not work. Is there another program that has the same functions? Thanks in advance!

you have to use the older version of it. the newer ones won't really work with the screencapping.

Is there a tutorial for uninstalling and then downgrading?

if you're on a mac, then use something like appzapper (or just delete the icon from the applications folder). then head over and get one of the older versions.

i can't remember which one it is off the top of my head.. i'm pretty sure it's one before the 1.0 versions. it shouldn't ask you to upgrade and if it does, then just don't.

ETA: I downloaded 0.9.9a, but I have no idea how to set it up. Do you remember how you installed it?

Thanks for the tip! I usually use .avi/.flv files, but this will be helpful when I need to.

Are you watching dvds? Because I know a way if you are using the Dvd Player.

Pause the movie where you want the screen cap, then go to terminal, and type "screen capture -i ~/Desktop/dvd.png" (no quotation marks) and hit enter.
Then put your mouse over the Dvd Player screen, and hit spacebar so you see a camera where your mouse was, and left click. It should take a screen cap, and save it to your desktop.

DON'T FORGET to go and rename the image right away, because if you don't,the screen caps will just get overwrited.

I hope this helps, if you have questions just ask ^^

One quick question, where are the caps stored?
