Hi, I'm really new to Photoshop and by new I mean I just got it today. I'm using Photoshop CS4. I've read all the HowTo.com posts about making 100x100 icons. Every time I attempt to change the pixel size the other number changes. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if their instructions were wrong, anyway, please help.

basics: cropping, program: photoshop

When your making a blank canvas, click on "advanced" and make sure your "pixel aspect ratio" is set to "Square Pixels"

Thats the only think I can think of, if it doesn't work then I have no idea

If you're working with an image and want to resize it into 100X100px, once you go into "image size" make sure the "constrain proportions" isn't checked!

Thank you so much! I'm so happy that it worked! They should really put that on those How To pages. Again, thank you! :)

That's generally not a good idea because it messes with the aspect ratio.

This guide explains why: http://dtissagirl.livejournal.com/167217.html

You want to make sure you crop the image into a perfect square first, then you can resize to 100x100 pixels.
