I have a pile of black-and-white images sitting in a folder and I haven't the slightest clue as to what I'm to do with them since I'm only used to dealing with colored images. So here is my question: what are your favorite effects to employ when dealing with black-and-whites? Links to tutorials would be amazing as well. I'm using Photoshop CS4

it dependes on whether you want to leave the pic b&w and then you need to add contrast, light, curves etc.. or if you wish to make it colorful, then I use some layers of color balance, add light textures or other colorful textures on different settings like color burn, hard light etc, and low the opacity... also I love to use the variatioins option (image>adjustments)and just keep playing with it until I like the result :)
