I know this community gets a lot of posts about color difference of icons on websites and what they looked like in Photoshop. This is one of those questions.

I've read this tutorial on image file formats. I save my icons in PSCS3 as .PNG-24 via "Save for Web & Devices" with Interlaced and Transparency checked. I use the latest version of Firefox ( Read more... )

I think it has more to do with the color of the page next to the icon. The darker section on the home page appears to draw out the contrast. Other than that, I can't see any difference between the two images themselves. The color around the icon can affect the way the eye interprets the icon.

It's not just the eye, it's the computer screen aswell I think. I'm not quite sure why, but when it's against a light backround it looks more washed out, and against a darker backround it looke like it has more contrast.
