Introduce Yourself
Name on your nametag: Bob Frank (aka Jess)
And where do you live?: Australia, country of two seasons (freaking hot and slightly cool).
Answer to your age: Actually 27. Though I'm a perpetual child at heart.

Share Some Interests
I'm currently really into: screencapping, Greek, Fringe, Bones, Michael & Maria (my otp of otps), the fact that Michael (from Roswell) married Rebecca (from Greek) on Bones, and how awesome it would be if Michael & Rebecca actually did get married, The Long Earth series, the fact that American Gods is actually going to be made into a TV series, and knowing that it's Spring and I actually began spring-cleaning this week.

Initiate Follow-Up Conversation
Ask a question (or three!) here (just in case the conversation has fallen into a lull):
1. What song is stuck on reply on your music playing device?
2. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?
3. What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Recommend me something based on the following:Science Fiction/Fantasy + ( ... )

We've got bogans and hipsters too, they just hide out in the suburbs. I'm unfortunately bogan, it makes me wonder where I went wrong in life.
Oh really? Maybe it's just Australian public transport in general that is shit.

I definitely saw my fair share of hipsters in inner city Melbourne when I was there, lol. I am undeniably bogan at times too. I think it's un-Australian not to be some of the time. It's just who we are as a people.

Re: public transport, Melbourne is to Newcastle, what Europe is to Australia. Which means it's infinitely better. Though Europe kicks our ass on having wonderful public transport.

ngl I'd love to be a hipster, I'd love to spent that much money to look like I don't care about how I look.

Oh you poor thing, do people drive more over there as a result? or do you all just put up with it? I found Singapore had incredible public transport, there was a train every 5 minutes and stations everywhere, we didn't even bother with a taxi the entire time we were on the island.

If I had enough money to spend on being a hipster, I'd probably be happy to be a hipster. Though I could never commit to it fully because I refuse to sell Apple my soul.

Everyone drives. Like, everyone. Though because we don't have as large a population as the capital cities, we can get away with it. Peak hour isn't a great time to drive, but its not annoying as hell like it is in say, Sydney.

My sister is currently living in London, and she was pissy because one Sunday while I was there visiting, we had to wait a whole 10 minutes for a bus, and she's not used to waiting anymore, lol. She's going to hate it when she gets back here, haha.

Agreed 100% on Apple. We could be hipsters with android phones, right?
I could just be all "urgh you use an iphone? They're soooo mainstream now, I use a HTC because I no one's Mum owns one."

Melbourne's traffic isn't a bad as Sydney, but it's still not great. Because the trains connect well people generally drive unless they are going into the city. For me to drive to work on the other side of Melbourne it takes an hour, by train it would take 3 hours because I've gotta catch a train into the CBD and out again on a different train line.

10 minutes sounds like a dream. I used to take the half hour walk home from the train station instead of the 5 minute bus ride because it was heaps faster than waiting for the next bus!

I was thinking of moving there for work (Sydney pays their medical scientists more than Melbourne does) but I already go mental in Melbourne traffic, I'd just sit in my car and cry in Sydney.

I'm not much better, I sold my soul to Samsung (their camera is just divine, and I will never not want a phone combined with a magical camera), but I think I'm going to a slightly less hipster version of hell because of it.

See, that's the issue with all other Aussie transport - its so sucky that it does take less time with a car. So people drive instead. If they get it to the point where it's easier for me to train it to work than to drive, I will give up driving. I doubt they will though.

Ahaha, that's exactly it. I mean, I can't remember the last time I bothered with a bus, because they are unpredictable and so freaking packed. That being said, peak hour in the London Underground is something I never want to experience again, so I may need to redefine my definition of packed public transport.

I've got a Samsung S3 and I'm not sold on it. It's laggy and it stops working when I run certain apps. Not sure if I'll upgrade to the S5 or if I'll try something else when my contract runs out.

Even if it only added half an hour to my travel time I'd probably go by public transport but to add 2.5 hours just one way? I'd spend all bloody day on a train and I've got import things sitting on my arse in front of a computer to do!

If you saw how packed the trains were on NYE or White Night here you'd rethink it too. On White Night I left at 11pm and it was a 30 minute wait just to get onto the train platform.
