For
picspammy's TV tropes challenge:
This spam invokes the trope "
Viewers are Morons."
This picspam was inspired by the news that CBS is firing AJ Cook from Criminal Minds and hiring a new actress in her place, as well as reducing Paget Brewster's role. Sources cited first "financial" and then "creative" reasons (a.k.a. executive bullshit). Clearly, CBS execs believe that a) female characters are expendable b) female characters are interchangeable and c) we won't miss them anyway. In other words, that viewers are all a bunch of morons. So I've decided to make a picspam appreciating the ladies of CM and also showing why they are anything but expendable.
I have included Elle in this picspam even though this news doesn't really concern her since she's not on the show anymore, but her presence was important as a major (and awesome) female character. Apparently this is a concept CBS is opposed to.
ELLE: "I want that BAU opening."
JJ: "I'm the unit liaison. My specialty is untangling bureaucratic knots. You'll probably be talking to me a lot. My door's always open, mostly because I'm never in my office, so just call me on my cell, OK? We'll talk."
ELLE: "I'm going to talk to her."
DETECTIVE: "May I ask why?"
ELLE: "She's surrounded by men."
MORGAN: "Shyer didn't see you as a peer or a threat. That was his mistake."
Elle speaks to a female victim who believes she might have been raped by her boyfriend. She then arrests the girl's boyfriend and is generally badass.
JJ: "My friends call me JJ."
JACOB: "Well, hello, JJ."
JJ: "You're not my friend. You can call me Jennifer."
ELLE: "What's the matter, Scotty? Can't deal with a woman who's not afraid of you?"
ELLE: "Here's to winning."
JJ tells a story explaining her fear of the woods that sounds like a 90s teen horror flick AJ could've starred in
MORGAN: "You're serious?"
JJ: "No... I don't know why I'm afraid of the woods. I just am."
HOTCH: "You did exceptional work the last couple of days."
JJ: "Thank you. It's nice to be noticed."
HOTCH: "We don't usually, do we?"
JJ: "It's all right. It's not why I do it."
HOTCH: "You ever think about taking the classes, becoming a profiler?"
JJ: No... I like my role. I like being the person a family can turn to, being the voice a poor, overworked homicide detective can turn to when he runs out of leads."
JJ is traumatized after being attacked by and having to kill vicious dogs. It is Emily, not Morgan, who is finally able to get through to her.
EMILY: "JJ, look at me."
JJ: "How come none of this gets to you?"
EMILY: "What do you mean?"
JJ: "You came off a desk job. Now suddenly you're in the field and surrounded by all these mutilated bodies, and you don't flinch."
HOTCH: "She's right. You don't blink."
EMILY: "I guess... maybe I just compartmentalize better than most people."
JJ: "No matter what happens this time, we don't split up. Clear?"
REID: "Crystal clear."
JJ and Emily work together while investigating a serial killer case at a women's college. JJ establishes a rapport with one of the students, who eventually supplies information crucial to solving the case.
Emily poses as a potential victim to gain access to the killer's house, and is instrumental in solving the case and saving the life of a victim.
JJ: "I think it's a good idea, though."
EMILY: "What's that?"
JJ: "You... kids. I can see it."
Emily offers comfort to JJ when Garcia is in the hospital.
JJ takes her shot and saves the life of at least one agent.
HOTCH: "It's OK if you lose it every once in a while. It reminds people that we're human."
JJ: "You never lose it."
HOTCH: "Maybe I should have."
Emily and JJ team up to solve a stalker case that had been ignored by the police until the victim came to the FBI.
EMILY: "I can take it."
JORDAN: "It must be in the salesmanship then because we've been watching all of the women in the club..."
EMILY: "And not one of them has looked at you. So who do you really go home with, Paul? Or do you go home alone?"
Emily and JJ lead the team and look really hot
EMILY: "Fantasy's over. Is that what you did to them? You hit them to shut them up and then forced them to play along with your sick delusion?"
JOE: "I loved them."
EMILY: "You're finally going to meet your soulmate, Joe. In prison. Only you're not going to be able to push him around like you did those women. And when he comes for you in the middle of the night when you're least expecting it, you do me a favor. Play along."
Em escapes a car wreck and still comes back to kick ass and rescue some victims, along with JJ.
~*FIN*~
And now thanks to CBS, there will be no more moments like these. Aren't they clever?
