Happy New Year, icon_talk!

As promised, it's time for our second round of Ask the Maker! Here you'll get the chance to ask icon makers who sign up, questions about their icons/graphics. You can ask for tutorials, guides/walk through, or simply ask a question regarding their work so the makers can compile a Q&A post, with the answers to all the questions ( Read more... )

I am amazed that I'm the first to ask you anything. SO I HAVE SEVERAL QUESTIONS.

First of all, I NEED TO KNOW HOW YOU CAN COLOR ICONS SO THAT THEY LOOK LIKE CANDY. FOR INSTANCE: this one. More specifically, how did you get the BRIGHT BRIGHT BEAUTIFUL yellows and greens and keep her skin still vibrant, but neither yellow nor green? HOW?

Second, in icons such as this one, how do you achieve that over-sharpened look without it looking bad? Basically, what methods do you use for sharpening? Are there textures involved? What's your process for determining if an icon should be soft vs. perfectly sharp vs. a little more sharp?

Sorry for ultimate HTML fail -.-.

YESSS. Especially that Lucrezia icon.

And I'm seconding the second question as well.

Basically, Nikki has said it all.

No problem, I can do all of this. It just might take a moment.

As for the last two, I have written a blending guide for the last Ask the Maker meme, in which I explain all my methods for cutting out pictures in detail. It's here. Let me know if this answers your questions about cutting out and negative space. :D
