Happy New Year, icon_talk!

As promised, it's time for our second round of Ask the Maker! Here you'll get the chance to ask icon makers who sign up, questions about their icons/graphics. You can ask for tutorials, guides/walk through, or simply ask a question regarding their work so the makers can compile a Q&A post, with the answers to all the questions ( Read more... )

Username and where I post my work: mm3butterfly @ encorevous & magicmachine
What can we request from you (tutorials, Q&A, walk through, other (specify))?: I don't save .psds for icons, though, so it's possible that I can't achieve the same result twice, so questions, "how to" and guides are less likely to disapoint you than tutorials & walkthroughs. But if you ask, I'll try tuts :)
Can we hotlink your icons?: Sure!
Anything else?: I'm not an english native speaker, sorry if I don't explain something well enough :(

CLEARLY The one who should be writing such guide is yourself, but I'll forgive your mistake in the grounds of your lack of sleep. ♥

A GUIDE ON HOW TO CUT OUT BACKGROUNDS AND FOREVER MAKE THEM LOOK SOFT AND PERFECT.

And why yes, it must have that title as well :)

Alternatively, Cece's guide to Blending/Softness/Vibrancy in icons would be much appreciated as well. Or one of the three!

WELL, "TELL ME ALL YOUR SECRETS" WAS TOO VAGUE. So I narrowed it down a little :P But please CECE, something of the sort would be lovely!

Any tutorial on coloring would be appreciated because your coloring is STUNNING.

I've wrote a bit about coloring here, but if you want something more specific, point me out some examples and it's going to be a pleasure to ramble about them :)

Okay I'm so glad I'm not the only one who is like piling on screen layers sometimes to make dark caps not all dark. XD Thank you! I love seeing other makers' thought processes!

How do you get the really bright, vibrant colors in your icons?

Lots of soft light, screen and vibrancy, basically. :D Do you have any examples of the coloring you like best, so I can write you a guide of sorts? :)

How do you add all the soft light layers without making your image too dark/oversaturated in areas? If I duplicate at soft light more than 2 or 3 times, bad things happen. Or do you mean soft light color/texture layers?

I couldn't find an example of exactly what I meant (you have so many awesome icons!) but this is more or less the coloring style I was thinking of:

I've talked a bit about coloring here, and the first icon has somewhat the same process as the second on your comment, and the second comes closer to the last two ( think? All of them are a mix of everything, to tell you the truth). Hope you find it somewhat useful! :)
