Kagami sometime thinks he's trapped between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.
The 'sea' metaphorically being the intertwined fates he and Tendou share. Tendou may -walk- the path of heaven, but Kagami isn't far behind him, floundering his way along.
Or perhaps the deep blue sea is Gatack. He's not too sure, but it's not like he spends a lot of time sitting around coming up with metaphors for his hectic life.
The 'Devil' is definately Tendou, he certainly knows that. Everyone thinks that Tendou is a nice guy, so kind and polite, with that small smile on his face. Kagami knows better, that smile is a lie, Tendou's real smile is a wild and sharp one, filled with barbs and thorns and traps of softly spoken words.
He can't seem to resist the siren song of either one, the chaos of battles and verbal sparring or the not-so quiet moments when it's just him and Tendou as they talk over a meal. This push and pull can't be healthy, not for his lifespan nor his sanity.
There are times when the lure towards one or the other is bigger. The rush of the sea, blood roaring through his veins is greater when facing a swarm of Worms, each bent on distraction, reminding him what he was born for, what Gatack was created for. They are 'The God of Battle' for a reason.
Tendou won't let Kagami cling to him when the undercurrents threaten to drag him down, smiling that needle sharp smile on his face that cuts him even as it slices into Kagami. Kagami can't run at those moments either, merely fight the waves as any efforts to flee or give up usually result in Tendou chasing him down in one way or the other. Kagami's almost become resigned to it at this point.
And then there are the times when Tendou sets down his weaponry, just for a little bit, when getting close doesn't mean having to bleed for it. When Tendou gasps and calls out Kagami's name, his head tilted back, neck bared in a mouth-drying display of submission or domination that Kagami doesn't need to ask to know he's the only one to ever see Tendou like this. With their bodies joined together and rocking with and against each other like the ocean tide.
Tendou holds on to him sometimes, after moments like that, like Kagami is the only thing keeping Tendou afloat, from being swept out to his own sea.
At those moments, Kagami doesn't mind being trapped between his Devil and the deep blue sea.
At least he's in good company.

Written in one washer cycle on the iPhone. @_@ Apologies for lack of pure smut, but they got ahold of the Carbon Leaf song 'The Sea' and went for this instead. ^^;;
