A plea to all of those oblivious to the world of retail, from behind the cashwrap:

1) Store Policies: Do not scream, bitch, whine, or roll your eyes at the associate explaining store policy to you. She did not write it. Further, do not do the forementioned when speaking with that associate's manager. She did not write it, either.

2) Store Merchandise: Never blatantly throw merchandise up over a rack, under a rack, on the ( Read more... )

Of course, you're preaching to the choir here in your journal. If only there was a way to link this post to the people who REALLY need to see it!

I worked for several years at a famed retailer that has a parade every year on an American holiday. This store's return policies were so liberal that items that were clearly worn (practially worn OUT) were permitted to be returned. The side effect of this is that the customers who figured this out expected it from other companies... and said they wouldn't shop at those other retailers unless they got their satisfaction.

It is a "service" industry, and "the customer is always right," but you're right, of course. People just feel they have a God give right to abuse everyone working in the system.

I think everyone who is abusive should have to work a solid week in retail during this time of year. It might change some opinions. At least your post should be Xeroxed and handed out at the entrance to every mall and store!

I would love to make a public service announcement. But who would listen? Perhaps if Bruce Willis did it, it would make an impact.

But seriously, this is being boasted as one of the most important holiday seasons of our generation. Why cloud it up with the same old garbage? What happened to peace and good will towards men? It seems to have become a piece of good will if you will give me a discount. What makes each individual person feel as if he or she is more important than the last thirty customers that you have serviced that hour?

I hope I reached at least one person in that post. If not, it sure did feel wonderful to get it out and posted.

I work at a grocery store and I know the feeling of getting rude customers. I tell customers that they can only get 1 turkey(They were on sale really cheap) with at least $20 more of groveries, and there is a sign too, yet they want their way and bend the limit to fit their needs. I saw some people walk out of the store because of that, which leaves me with their groceries.

yep, yep. I work in a grocery store also, and obviously during the holiday's it can be freakin HELL. I like your last part about the flag...people display it so proudly lately, yet the lack of common courtesy has gone right back to what it used to..if it changed at all. Very well said rant :o)

Unfortunately it has become a trend. A sanctimonious one at that. "I am more patriotic than thou". It is all such crap. I have yet to see an improvement in the nature of human beings. I'm afraid to know what it would take to make it happen.

much like yourself of course. i work a a grocery store, and i don't deal with stupid customers, i just say 'ok sir, i can't help you, talk to that person :0)' it's nice not having responsibility. i have something to add to your list since i live in FL, land of all your grandparents. Don't complain about a dime! the standing record is a old bird bitching about how we shafted her 7 cents on a "free" coupon because it wasn't worth the full price that we charge. ARGH! i hate old people.... and props to the person with the Godlike picture
