Stop, Look and Listen
The first time Junsu glanced at her was during dance rehearsals for Girls' Generation.
It wasn't anything really. It was quick and done, probably unknowingly, by the person who did it, but it had struck something inside of Taeyeon's heart that she had to stop and walk towards the back of the room. The girls all looked quizzically at her and she told them she was alright. Just tired, needed a break, take a breather.
She said all of this with a bright smile and a funny face that no one asked again. They didn't see her hold her hand up to her chest and breathe. Wondering vaguely in her head, if he'll ever actually look at her the she looked at him.
The next time Taeyeon saw Junsu was on TV. Her members were all gathered around the living room, laughing and joking about that day's perfomance, when a segment about their sunbaes came on and they watched. The interviewer had asked them about So Nyeo Shi Dae and they all patiently (anxiously) sat still to hear their answer. She didn't exactly hear what Junsu had to say when he opened his mouth because a moment later, her members were squealing and nudging her just as the other DBSK members on TV were reacting as they covered Junsu's mouth.
Taeyeon found out later what he had said through Tiffany and she only looked at her confused. "Okay, then why did you guys start going crazy?" she had asked, blinking. Her friend only laughed at her in response, hugging her and saying: "You're much too young, honey."
Junsu looked at her during the Only Love MV shooting. Not directly, as he was just looking from where he sat with his members to where she was with hers. She didn't catch him either because Yoona did, after pointing while laughing her bright laugh at Taeyeon and telling her to look. Surprised as she was, Taeyeon followed, and there he was looking right at her. Everything then seemed to come into a blur.
He didn't smile, or say anything after. Instead he looked away and joked with Yoochun beside him. She did the same, only to Yuri, and the moment ended just like that. Just not for her -- because her heart was still beating frantically inside her chest as the shooting went on.
He covered her when they shopped during their stay in America for the Hollywood Bowl and their fans had seen them together. Of course, Leeteuk and a manager was also there but that wasn't the point, right? Junsu didn't have to shield her (she felt safe around him) but he did and Taeyeon found herself saying "Thank you" so many times to his back, she forgot how bad this could get when they get home.
"I'm sorry for causing you guys' trouble, oppa." She had whispered to no one (to him) in particular after they sat safely inside the van. "But thank you." Leeteuk had laughed and said it was okay and that they were family and men and blah blah blah, but she was looking at Junsu in the front seat.
He didn't speak, but instead he caught her eye from the mirror and smiled. Taeyeon smiled back, her heart drumming steadily (happily).
The way he held her hand for a second after the concert happened so quickly Taeyeon wondered if it was real. She was walking back to the stage and he was still leaning towards a fan when she bumped into him. Junsu had stood up straighter a moment later and brushed next to her -- his hand and hers touching (holding) so swiftly it had sent her heart into overdrive for a split second. Taeyeon managed to keep her focus on walking but inside she was in distress. Elated yes, but distressed all the same.
"Smile, Taeyeon," he whispered from beside her and she blinked (hiding the shock behind a caring look for her fans). Junsu looked her from the corner of his eye and smiled. Taeyeon found herself reeling inwardly.
"You look prettier with a smile on your face."
And Taeyeon did as she was told.
Junsu sang fervently during dinner that his members had to feed him to shut him up. Taeyeon liked the quiet but she liked hearing him sing even more. She sighed loudly when the boys shuffled away that Tiffany smirked at her from behind the restaurant's menu.
"What?"
"Nothing. If you want to hear him sing, get your mp3 and play one of their songs."
She could have retorted to that but Taeyeon knew her friend had a point. The music moved her and not a moment after; she was singing... loudly, that her members started to laugh. She didn't mind though, and she just sang.
Someone tapped her on the shoulder and she looked (and wished she didn't). Junsu stood grinning down at her. "You're singing off key," he reprimanded, his tone joking -- light. She felt a blush on her face as she apologized.
He shook his head, taking a seat next to her. Taeyeon started to panic, her heart was pounding too hard and she looked for her members for help. They weren't there -- they had somehow managed to sneak away, and she sat helplessly (holding her breath as her body tingled next to his).
"I'll sing it right for you," Junsu said -- and the panic slowly ebbed away. Taeyeon smiled, leaning back on her seat, listening.
*My heart is like this...
You're the only person who can see it
No matter who I see, or where I am,
I only look at you...
Later that night she reached a conclusion, and she wondered out loud how long her heart had known... and Sunny answered sleepily, "It's always been there." Taeyeon decided to keep it to herself after that.
"Ah, oppa!" Taeyeon greeted, bowing shyly at Junsu when he appeared beside her inside a practice room. "I didn't hear you come in."
"You were lost in your thoughts. As always, Taeyeon," he replied, smiling slightly.
They stood together in silence. And Taeyeon suddenly felt overly conscious standing so closely to him.
"Oppa. I have something to confess." She talked so quickly she didn't bother to look at his reaction, "Junsu-oppa, I--"
His kiss on her forehead was unexpected, and she jumped back in surprise. Junsu laughed at her and patted her head, grinning widely. His eyes staring straight into hers.
"Do you get it yet?" Junsu said this while laughing.
And Taeyeon blinked. Once, twice. Three times before it sunk in--
Junsu had said this about So Nyeo Shi Dae on TV one day: "Our eyes are drawn to them." And Taeyeon, for the love of sweet potatoes, never understand what her members' reactions meant until after some time. But after days of greeting, talking and looking --
The way Junsu's eyes met her eyes, the way his hand molded around her hand, the way his smile reflected her smile... She understood. (Or at least she hoped (wished) she was right.)
The way Junsu's eyes met her eyes, the way his hand molded around her hand, the way his smile reflected her smile...
She softly put her hands around his face and brought it to hers. Her kiss was quick, a shadow almost, but it was warm. Taeyeon grinned.
"Okay."
Junsu shook his head, laughing as he lowered his face close to hers.
"Finally."
