hyper mornings

The smell of coffee was the first thing that greeted Minseok. It wasn’t a bad thing. He loved coffee but there’s something he loved more than the addicting caffeine, and it’s no other than Kim Jongdae. He had expected to see the younger man curled up next to him as he always did but his side of the bed was deprived of its ever laughing occupant.

Minseok crawled out of bed, eyes drooping with sleep.

As the door opened, he immediately heard faint humming from the kitchen. With his eyes closed, he took in the stronger scent of morning coffee, smiling at another beautiful morning.

“Minseok, what are you doing there?” Jongdae called from behind the kitchen counter, his face broke into a lazy smile when he saw Minseok standing at the doorway in nothing but his boxers. Without further instructions, Minseok ran to him, hugging Jongdae from behind, his face buried into the other man’s shoulder.

“What’s with you?” Jongdae gave out a hearty laugh. Minseok couldn’t see him but he knew Jongdae was wearing that beautiful smile. That smile where his eyes crinkled and disappeared into tiny crescents, where the curve of the side of his lips would unfurl, where his cheekbones protruded more-the smile Minseok fell in love with. Jongdae’s smile.

They both ended up laughing; Jongdae’s high pitched cackling filled their small apartment, bringing in more life into the atmosphere.

Over breakfast and a mug of coffee, footsies were played under the dining table, light and teasing touches were exchanged, ethereal kisses and countless ‘are you okay Minseok’s pressed against hot and warm skin.

Minseok tackled Jongdae down in the middle of the living room, almost knocked over a lamp. He hugged him again-a bit tighter than before. Jongdae puffed Minseok’s bangs away and he completely stopped laughing, eyes trained on the man beneath him. Jongdae looked so wonderful under him, all breathless and kittenish smiles.

Minseok closed his eyes and leaned down to kiss him full on the mouth, no more teasing. Jongdae was eager to return the kiss, tongue sliding against Minseok’s. The older man’s hand found its way to Jongdae’s chin, tilting him back. He wanted Jongdae to feel sheltered in everything he does because the kiss was like a thank you. A thank you to fate, a thank you to luck because, god dammit, he’s so lucky to have Jongdae. To be able to love Jongdae, to be loved by Jongdae. To even be a part of Jongdae’s world.

Minseok was thankful, oh so thankful.

Jongdae pulled back for air and kept laughing as his hand carded through Minseok’s copper hair. The other man kissed his forehead in retaliation. “You kiss me like you’re never going to see me again.” Jongdae joked half-heartedly fending off Minseok’s sloppy kisses. “I feel so loved.”

“You should be. That’s my job.” Minseok grinned and made more obnoxious kissy faces at him. “Oh, shit. Speaking of job, I need to run to the firm today!” Minseok got up and offered his hands to tug Jongdae to his feet.

“But it’s a Saturday.”

“That’s what I said to Junmyeon yesterday,” Minseok sighs. “I’ll be back before lunch, though. Don’t worry.” He still had his hands out waiting for Jongdae to take them.

“Go and clean up first. We don’t want anyone smelling your morning breath.” Jongdae waved him away, getting up on his own two feet. Minseok frowned for a second but it melted just as Jongdae locked eyes with him. Minseok pressed his lips against Jongdae’s again, and the other made a disgusted face. “Ew.”

“Oh please. You love me.”

“Yeah, I do. But Junmyeon is going to fire you when he smells your breath. Go, I’ll clean up here.”

Minseok scrambled towards the bathroom, but before he closed the door he remembered something. “Jongdae.”

“Yeah?” Jongdae turned to him, a stack of plates in his hands.

“I love you.”
