Rating: PG
Word Count: 1370
Timeline: Between S2 and S3 for due South, and pre-canon for Slings & Arrows.
Pairings: Fraser/Thatcher, Geoffrey/Ellen
Summary: Meg Thatcher is not a fan of Romeo and Juliet. However, on a trip to New Burbage with Constable Fraser, she finds a few reasons to reevaluate her opinion.

She is not going to cry. She is far too old, and anyway, it's more of a cliché than she can bear, crying at the end of Romeo and Juliet. )

"Huh," Ellen Fanshaw says. "I guess the Mounties really do always get their man."

Tee-hee, this line made me snicker. Also, nice sideline to Yeats poem with the swans. :)

(...I did not even think about the Yeats poem while writing this! ZOMG!)

Ellen's line was my favorite as well. :D

You're lit degree is showing. ;) I actually only made the connection because I know you've mentioned in the past how that poem is one of your favorites, and I guess I was in a liturature state of mind due to the Romeo and Juliet thing.

Aww, that was sweet. I like this line in particular: "People call it the greatest love story ever told, but I've always seen it as more of a cautionary tale-defy your parents, defy fate, and the universe will punish you for not knowing your place." Because of course Fraser would see it that way, and of course he would see it the other way too: it's that combination of dutiful pragmatism and romantic idealism that's just very Fraser.

Thank you! I'm really pleased you thought Fraser's interpretation of the play was true to character. :)

This is lovely and a perfect crossover. I love the comment on how Geoffrey and Fraser could be twins...drop it in, acknowledge, let it go: great way to deal with it. And I love that there is the scene at the play, then Fraser and Thatcher, then Geoffrey and Ellen. I loved the complaint from Ellen (SO her) about needing to feed Geoffrey a line and the comment about Ellen being "entrancing" and about the Mounties leaning so far apart.
