OH, feel better soon! That's awful and I hate when things like that happen. May your year be much better as you go on! I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm sorry it was so shocking. People staring at you when you get hurt is much worse too...

That is weird. My mom never had a table like that in room that got much use. We have a couple glass tables, but one is in the living room and is more for decoration than anything else (it's top is all glass like the one in your picture) and the other is also in the living room (the glass top on this one is framed by marble), also primarily for decoration.
My dad had a glass dining table that we ate on. I always got so nervous whenever one of us would get up, and I almost never put my hands on the table to help me get up. I used to think I was paranoid but after reading your story . . .

We use to have wooden base of table until what all this glass thing came as fashion. But the new one I have here is wooden base, no more glass from us. I have phobia already :-P haha

Maybe the glass is already weak for some time and you just literally pushed it to its limit... Maybe it's time to replace it with a wooden coffee table... XD
I say keep being positive! Sure, it's a pain at the moment, but it won't affect you permanently. It will heal in no time. Like what your mom said, you are lucky it did not hit your eyes. That's already something to be thankful for. :)

Oh the cuts are all healed in 3rd day and the bruises took about say... I think 8/9 days. The bruises are harder to heal. My elder sister have to help me to massage it every night to get rid of those dark marks :-P
