True Love Waits

Returning to Brooklyn didn’t feel like returning home, like it always had in the past. Instead, it felt like he’d left his home behind him in LA. He returned to the apartment he hadn’t been to in weeks and it felt wrong, empty, different. It really was amazing, all the things that had happened since last he set foot in this place. The last time ( Read more... )

It was strange; playing tourist in what had once been your home town. Thus far, Steve had been avoiding Brooklyn because he hadn’t been sure he was up for seeing his old stomping grounds as changed as the rest of New York had apparently in the last seventy years. Times Square was still too much for him, the press of people, the lights and cars everywhereThe simple fact he’d managed to escape on his own without some ‘escort’ or ‘cultural attaché’ or whatever ridiculous title Fury wanted to put on his babysitter for the day was a minor miracle all on its own. Either way, Steve was glad none of Fury’s ubiquitous suit-wearing agents were around to see how deeply Steve found himself affected as he came to the front of a very nice, expensive storefront where his favorite diner had once stood more than seven decades ago. Broadway and Atlantic avenue had once been a much homier place, and Brooklyn’s formerly seedier past could still be seen in the bones of the neighborhood ( ... )

For a second, Bucky froze. He'd seen the man plenty of times since Steve was brought back, but never this close. He fucking ran into him, for Christ's sake! Bucky hadn't been planning to let his presence be known to the man until absolutely necessary, and hadn't planned on actually confronting him unless he had no other choice. It was better if Steve thought he was dead.

But here he was, standing right before Steve, looking just as stupefied as the other man. That brief contact brought back a wealth of memories, and it was a long moment before he could will himself to move. “Excuse me,” he muttered, turning back around and pushing his way through the crowd, hoping to get away quick before Steve could follow him.

"Bucky! No--wait!" Logically, Steve knew the chances of this man being his Bucky were near impossible. It wasn't Bucky, it couldn't be because he'd died more than seventy years ago but the super soldier couldn't stop himself from rudely shoving his way through the crowd after the brunette so he could clap a hand on the man's shoulder.

He'd seen the recognition on the man's face hadn't he? The dismay and sickly feeling, right? Or was his mind just playing more tricks on him and making up crap just to feed his desperate need to see his best friend again. Whatever the case, Steve couldn't just leave things like this, couldn't just let him disappear into a crowd once more.

Bucky desperately pushed through the crowd before he found an area without as many people. He leaned against the railing, trying to catch his breath and recover from the shock of what had just happened. If Steve was following, he’d be able to catch up easily, but Bucky didn’t care as much now that he was out of the crowd.

Daken had spent two miserable nights along tossing and turning in his suddenly much too big and uncomfortable bed. By the second day he was just grimly holding off on hunting Bucky down out of sheer pride's sake.

Unfortunately, facing yet another night along had the mutant's resolve breaking and he hopped a flight to New York City. Once he hit Brooklyn, the mutant started to hunt his quarry down, a feat all of its own with millions of people around confusing the scent. Bucky had told him about some of his more favored restaurants though so he started to track him that way. Wait staff and delivery drivers got paid shit so it didn't take him too long to get a general bead on Bucky's location ( ... )

"Hi...uh...how much do I owe you?" Steve wasn't sure what he'd done to earn the surly look this vaguely-Asian looking guy was giving him but gamely tried to soldier on because he was kind of starving.

It took all of Daken's indomitable will not to growl or just skewer the annoying looking son of a bitch in the neck. Without a word, the mutant turned on his heel and started to stalk away back down the stairs before he did something he and Bucky would probably regret.

Understandably more than a little confused and vaguely weirded out with the guy who apparently just wanted to glower at him, Steve shut the door and wisely locked it as well

"Weird, I don't think that was the delivery guy."

The mutant disliked anyone touching his hair and had made his feelings on the subject painfully clear on many occasions. So the fact that he didn't try and knock Bucky's hands away when he stroked his fingers through those sweat dampened black strands was remarkable all on its own.

Daken's bared chest rose and fell beneath Bucky's weight and slowly, his arms came around the older man. "Hmmn, nice."

"Very," Bucky agreed with a smile. He nuzzled the man, kissing Daken's cheek.

If it had been anyone else, Daken would have no doubt squirmed away and pushed Bucky out of him but he didn't mind the sensation of the other man's half-hard length still buried inside of him.

"So, that was Steve, was it?" he mused quietly, the backs of his fingers stroking up Bucky's spine.

That sneaky bastard. Bucky actually groaned, rolling off the man but keeping his arms wrapped around him and a thigh draped across his stomach. "I thought you didn't wanna bring other people into bed with us."
