Why do you think people give you so much shit for doing your own thing? I mean, even if some people don't like your solo stuff, I think they should still at least give you *some* respect for going out on a limb and doing a solo albumfrom:theacademyisnot ( Read more... )

Well said. Even when people speak of FOB's return. It's so dumb to think that their album would sound anything like any of the other albums previously recorded. If they make an album that sounds like music they made 5-10 years ago, what kind of evolution is that? Times change. People change. Music changes. I especially do not know any creative artist, whether it's a musician, painter, etc, that only enjoys one aspect of their field of choice. Artists tend to be very open minded, diverse in their tastes, and constantly morphing within themselves.

He has a long list of heroes.

But I completely agree. And that was well said. It makes me sad when people bug them about FOB. I just want them all to be happy. Period. I want them to do what they want to do, what they need to do in terms of satisfying their own growth as musicians and their own creativity. I don't want fans to have any say in what it is they're doing, honestly. haha. I think where they're all heading is just fine... and I just wish people would get over this whole "...but FOB...!" stuff and give what they're doing a chance. They don't HAVE to like it, of course, but I think they should try it and at least respect that they're all happy with the music they're currently making.

But alas. I feel like this argument will just never die. At this point, the issue is like beating a dead horse.

I'd rather have warm memories of FOB when they were happy about making great music than new music born out of frustration and unhappiness, good or not. Anyway, I love what Patrick's making now so I'm okay.
