At least this breakup didn't leave Devon looking like a cad. I've always hated those fanfics which did that. Devon's a nice guy, who would never hurt Ellie if he could help it.
*THIS* breakup was two, mature, people realizing that they were, perhaps, not right for each other after all...
*clutching your ankles and weeping with joy for the fabulosity that is the angst!!!*
Love these sentences (and secretly wishing I had written them):
Well, and that his kisses were like manna from heaven to the starving.
Break it off? What, like a Kit-Kat bar?
He was trying too hard to be normal. When what would really have been ‘normal’ was for him to acknowledge that they had had, and still had, problems. Big problems. Perhaps, Ellie had realized yesterday, insurmountable problems. He had secrets of unknown gravitas; she had ones that were ocean-liner-sized.
Her mind raced with possibilities. He’d sold their house to Morgan and Anna at a quarter of its value so they could learn to be adults. He’d emptied their savings so he and some buddies could take a heliboarding trip around Nepal. His parents asked to move in with them after they were married, and he’d told them ‘yes’ ...
LOL, you are too funny. Thanks so much for letting me know exactly which parts worked for you! As you know, since you're an excellent author, that's very helpful.
