Fic: Once And Again (1/5)

Finally finished this! (And found a title. That was hard).
Anyways, this was supposed to be crackfic, but, you know. I suck at lighthearted happiness?

Title: Once And Again
Pairings: Kes/Burr, Bieksa/Lapierre (really, I do not know where that came from)
Summary: Kevin has a plan. Ryan and Alex just don't know it.

“I’ve got it!” Kevin bursts out suddenly. The sudden revelation earns him only a disgruntled moan from Maxim, who’s lying on the bed underneath him.

“What?” Maxim whimpers at the loss of Kevin’s tongue on his skin, and squirms impatiently. His dark hair is mussed against the pillow, dark eyes still bright, even as he’s almost glaring now at the interruption. He’s still tangled in his halfway-torn-off button-up shirt, his jeans mostly shoved down, and looks both debauched and disgruntled.

“I know what to do,” Kevin clarifies, sitting back. Maxim growls.

“Kev…”

“But this is perfect!”

“For what?”

“For Kes and Bur!” Kevin scrambles off the bed, nearly tripping over his jeans, which are still halfway on. He yanks them back up impatiently, tosses his shirt back at Maxim.

“What? Why are you even thinking about them right now?” Maxim howls indignantly.

“Because I’ve finally got it!” Kevin returns to the bed, bends down and kisses Maxim hard. This earns him a powerful groan, and an even louder growl when he walks away again.

“But…” Maxim calls helplessly, but Kevin’s already running to find his phone. Oh, he’s going to owe Maxim for this, he knows it; he’s been torturing the poor man since their game ended- possibly before, if he’s honest about it- and Maxim’s going to want to kill him for stopping now.

The phone picks up on the third ring.

“Hello?”

“Emily!” he exclaims, and hears Maxim’s sigh from across the hall.

“First you think about two other men, and then you run off to call a woman?!”

“Aww, is that Maxie?” Emily says. Kevin grins. “Tell him I say hi!”

“Emily says ‘hi Maxie’” Kevin calls out.

“Keeeevvviiiinnnnn,” Maxim whimpers.

“He’s kinda distracted right now,” Kevin tells Emily, “I’m sure he says hi too.”

“So what’d you want, if you abandoned him like that?” Emily knows him too well, that much is certain.

“I just had the greatest idea in the world. I’ll let you bask in that glory for a second.”

“I basked at the last great idea.”

“The umbrella one?”

“No, the Schneider one.”

“Ah, right.” He grins at the memory. Sure, maybe locking Schneids into the airplane bathroom was mean, but it did get Luongo to rescue him, and that whole thing ended up pretty well, if Kevin says so himself. “This one’s even better.”

“So it’s up there with the Emily Idea of Maxim Getting one, eh?”

“Exactly.” The Emily Idea of Maxim Getting is an idea that even Kevin will admit is one of the greatest in the history of ever. It had been flawless in its simplicity; the fact that it had involved stealing Maxim’s car and house keys isn’t important. What’s important is that it ended up with Maxim kissing him good morning, and that’s all that Kevin really cares about.

“So what is it?”

“You’re going to date Kes and Bur!”

This earns him a long silence. “I feel like you might have lost sight of the goal here.”

“No, no, this is genius, trust me. Can you come over?”

“It’s almost midnight.”

“Tomorrow, then. You can take me out for coffee.”

“Sure. Now go tend to Maxie, okay? I can practically hear his anguish.”

“See you tomorrow!” Kevin hangs up, goes back into the bedroom grinning from ear to ear.

“You don’t find this just a tad obsessive?” Maxim questions, leaning up on one elbow.

“I think it’s funny that you’ve got all the slang down, while Bur can’t even get a handle on pronunciation,” Kevin says, sitting on the side of the bed.

“I’m smarter than he is. But what are you going to do to them now?”

“You’ll see.”

“You’re crazy.”

“And yet-”

“Yeah, yeah.” Maxim flops back onto the bed, glares up at him, “and yet, I love you, so that makes me crazy too.” He gives Kevin that lopsided grin of his, and rewards Kevin with a filthy slew of French when Kevin goes back to what he’d been doing earlier with his tongue.

“You’re going to like this,” Kevin says earnestly, once he and Emily are seated in a far corner at a Blenz. “It’s acting.”

“Sounds like one of your more dangerous plans.” Emily gives him a wary look across the table. She’s a year or two younger than him, with dark curls and hazel eyes and a smattering of light freckles across her nose; she’s casual and sweet, exactly the opposite of what Kevin needs her to be.

“That’s why it’ll work really great. You wanna take notes or something?”

She arches an eyebrow, but dutifully pulls a notebook out of her purse. Definitely knows him too well.

“So, who am I?”

“Okay.” Kevin grins, can’t help it; this is genius. “With Alex, you need to be a bit of a bitch.”

“Really?”

“Really. Kinda aloof, a little snarky, and like, offhandedly funny. Also, you’re American, and your name is Emmy.”

“ooookay. He really has bad taste, doesn’t he?”

“Yeah.”

“What about for the other one?”

“With Ryan, you’re French.”

“Isn’t that a little obvious?”

“Nothing is too obvious for these guys. You’re gonna be a Quebec transplant, and your English isn’t super great, accent’s even worse. Kind of hyper, and kinda nervous.”

“Nervous.”

“Trust me. Act like being around him makes you kind of nervous.”

“Okay. So my name’s-”

“Émilie.”

She scribbles in her notebook, then looks up at him, pursing her lips. “You really think this’ll work.”

“Totally will!”

“Do I have to like… sleep with them?”

“If you want.”

“And you think it’ll work.”

“If it happened once, it can happen again.”

“This worked before?”

“Well, no, this is a new idea. But my last plan worked!”

“And how are you gonna convince them to date me, exactly?”

“Easy,” Kevin grins, “easy, easy, easy.”
