I'm so afraid of becoming this type of parent that I think I'm going to hurt my Boy by not giving him ANY direction at all.

I like the Indian parents because they believe that education takes time and effort, so they start their kids early and give me time to do my job.

Nah. Most of my Indian kids have vociferous advocates in the form of their parents, who care a great deal about education. Rashmi is remarkably mature, plays the Tableh (sp?), and is patient, hard-working, sets her own goals. Priyanka has a fabulous relationship with her mother and was written up in the local newspaper for giving away all the money that was meant to be spent a her sweet sixteen to Manna, a food bank where she volunteers. Lakshmi, saddled with a lifetime of health problems from being born premature at four months, has had every support for her education lavished on her and is able -- with twice the effort of all the other students -- to handle AP classes.

They're each one of a kind, and having dedicated, caring parents never hurt anyone. :D

We rarely see what is there in front of us. The terrible thing is, the thing most often in front of us is our children.
