Strictly speaking, Out Of Bounds was finished in 2009. So only three years old. Primer to the Dark Arts was perhaps the third fic I ever wrote, and Cursed Artefacts was posted 18 months later in 2004.
I love it. Fanfic is the gift that keeps on giving.
Primer to the Dark Arts was one of the first Harry/Snape stories I read and one of the ones that made me fall in love with that pairing. It's been way too many years since I've read it, now.
It was my real entry into the HP fandom. I'd written one HP fic before that, and an unfinished LotR five-part story arc. But I'd say Primer was my first real plunge into both writing and fanfic.
I doubt I ever commented on the two Harry Potter ones. I was new to fandom when I read them, but 'naked Mobilicarpus into a snowbank' still plays in my mind as a threat when I can't get my daughter out of bed (I don't use it since we don't have snow, and she is not naked, but it still runs through there). And Primer was definitely my first long plotty fanfic (first classic Hogwarts Snarry too, I think).
(And your starter kit site was my original guide when I started reading slash)
I'm still primarily a Snarry fan (or Snape/Draco), but lately I have been reading a lot of Harry/Draco (thanks largely to the vast number of excellent fics in recent H/D fests).
I really loved that kit for helping me to explore HP slash fully and with excellent writing, I think I read everything there at some point (and learned mad google skillz trying to find some of the broken links). Of course it probably helped to create the high expectations of fanfic that I have now, but I doubt I would have lasted long in fandom without it, since I am very fussy about quality of writing and story spinning.
I've never read the Potter ones. I never saw the movies, either. (I know, I know. I did read the first book, tho. Does that count?) But you know my continuing love affair with Out of Bounds! It is a pleasure all the way thru, even after as many times as I've read it.
Reading the first book counts more than seeing the movies, imho. And I think, other than me, no one has read Out Of Bounds more often than you. Thank you for all your wise suggestions throughout. It's taken working with someone that I didn't hit it off with, who wasn't encouraging, for me to fully appreciate (not that I didn't appreciate before, because I certainly did) what a talent you have for nursing a story along. I don't do well with snarky betas, and you are the antithesis of the snarky beta. You made me feel good about my story even when I did not.
I have all the books. I'm planning on reading them to Chloe when she gets older.
Thank you for that. It's nice of you to say. I don't understand the kind of beta process that is more tear-down than build-up. I don't think I'd take kindly to that approach either.
