I haven't ever believed that we're going home. There are holes so deep, you can't get out, and you can't be rescued from them. I don't understand why no one else thinks this way - but every day, I'm deeply, deeply thankful that no one else does.

They've altered our minds in our being here. They've implanted complete knowledge of the English language. What would have prevented them implanting false memories, to give us false hope?

Because the memories of my last world aren't anything anyone would ever imagine. And there's a few of us here, all with the same memories as me.

Your first defense - that they're nothing anyone would dream up - is frankly false: the human imagination is capable of conceiving of anything. The second is more convincing, but ultimately specious: if they can implant memories in you, they can implant memories in others, as well.
