What would you do?

So if you have IVF treatments, are you prepared to give all of those embryos life? Or will you allow them to be destroyed? This woman chose life, against all the odds. Her circumstances are dire. She may break the bank. She may "lose it all" in terms of worldly wealth, but her children are alive, and they never have to wonder whether their mother ( Read more... )

It's not through IVF. At least I don't think so... My doctor will not put more than 2 embryos in the uterus. I'm sure most doctors are the same.

These couples probably had injectable drugs which make several eggs. My doc was wanting to do this with me in December. If we had gone through with it he would have checked the number of eggs before we could go ahead and do anything.

But anyway, I think this couple is amazing! I'm not sure I could handle more than too infants!

I def would have made the same decision. There's no way it would be OK with me to kill a few of my babies... I do understand why some doctors would push for it... but my life is not any more important.

This woman with the octuplets has 6 children already and has no husband and no job. From what I read, this woman had IVF with her other children and had one last treatment in order to avoid having those last embryos destroyed. Pretty, VERY courageous move, and self sacrificial move... still. what do you think?

I love the horton hears a who line!

Wow, my doctor would outright refuse to put that many in there! They're saved for the future. Maybe they can only be saved for so long? I dunno. Many couples adopt out their embryos. I'm on a waiting list to adopt someone else's embryos!

I'm sure that would be hard... Maybe the only other option for her was to have them destroyed... maybe her embryos did not qualify for adoption for some reason... In that case I'd definitely do what she did... There's no way I could have my babies destroyed...

But then again there's no way I could take care of 8 babies on my own right now. I'm so glad I'm not in her position!!!

Hopefully the community will help her.

edited to say...

I would have the embryos adopted. I'm sure there would be a way to do it even if the doctor/clinic I was using didn't normally do so. Maybe a lawyer could help me out with it. But yeah... that's what I'd do! I think. :)
