I've been thinking about this for a while now. I've often wanted to participate more in the PoC Carnivals, etc, but while I am in online media fandom, I don't consider myself in sf/f fandom per se. Certainly television shows in other genres like comedy, reality, or procedural drama have their race problems, some of which are exacerbated by the behavior of fandom. With the advent of verb_noire and its inclusion of mystery and romance as well as sf/f, I wonder if there is also an opportunity to expand our understanding of what goes on in media and fandom beyond sf/f to reflect the larger scope of online media fandom. (I also wonder this about the Carnival, though this isn't the place to discuss that, exactly.)
Currently ibarw is broader in scope than just sf/f-I think of deadbrowalking as filling that role in some respects-and I think it would be exciting to take the current conversation beyond sf/f, lest other genres consider themselves to have no problems by comparison ( ... )
