I really love this story. There's some sad stuff, but mostly it just bounces along, putting up a tough face, just like the protagonist. (Who I imagine is named "Pretty" or "Precious" or something like that.) There's a lot of great detail in here - I love the outsider angst that comes from having parents who don't conform. It's quite funny, also. Thanks for writing this!

I love the way you pulled off the monologue style. It's real and personal and full of character, but not so much so that you forget you're reading or that it feels fake or cheesy.
