I love this - the humor mingled with the drama, the characters, and the well-paced action sequences. Really an enjoyable read.

These are such fun scoundrels! It's strangely satisfying to see mercenaries BEING mercenary, ruthless, and all that. Distressing, too, with the painting = torture, and yet enjoyable. But I guess stuff blowing up always is.

Stern had taken six months to recover from the damage Irina had done to her shooting hand, and it still cramped up sometimes. Cadburry couldn't twist his head to the right too quickly.
That's a great detail to see. The danger is a fact. Their easy approach to it is so weird and interesting, and I also like the kind of partnership it's helped Stern and Cadburry develop.

In the plane, they found the pilot dead in his seat, brains splattered all over the cockpit window.
Ha, clever. I like that Stern can fly the thing anyway.

Oh man, I totally adore this. The humor and characters were top notch (I want to read about Stern and Cadburry's other jobs) and I kept picturing the action scenes like a high-budget movie =]
