This was beautiful and haunting, Reirei. I really like the feel of this pieces and the subject matter was so delightfully eerie. I also really liked the end. It was wonderfully j-horrorish. XD
I enjoyed this story a lot. It was a little hard to quash the instinct to reach for the wikipedia searchbar every time I came across a term I didn't understand (since I'm not all that well-read on Japanese culture or mythology *laughs*) but despite that, it didn't detract a whole lot from the flow of the story, and its conclusion came very nicely. I liked it, anyway. ♥ It has a very old-world fairytale feel to it, especially in the way the characters are described and act (the wistfulness of the girl, the enigmatic print-seller), and I really like that-- it's only reinforced by the lack of names, too, which seems to be the case with many fairy tales.
Thank you for the lovely read. That was a great ghost story. :)
Oh, wow. This is excellent- I think it's my favorite story of the issue. The language here is so delicate and distant- almost like a fairytale (or ghost story!) but not quite. I also think your take on the theme is excellent: I love that the ghost is the horror here, but rather the girl's normal life. There's such a great feeling of unease and wrongness here. Very, very good writing.
Oh, Rei...I always love reading your work, even though I don't always get the chance to comment. But what you accomplished here was amazing. The characterization, how I got sucked into the story, the details and the way you gradually made the plot flow, building into the climax....this story even felt like Kyoto, like old Japan, and left me marveling at its beauty and wishing I could write like this. Well done! *HUGS*
