Right, it has just going 11 o'clock. I am going home. Yes, I will be busy tomorrow (and possibly Saturday morning as well) sorting out the office and the better part of a decade's worth of stuff to do with this university, but I will be even less effective if I don't get any sleep.

Am sitting at dining room table using laptop (yeh for wireless!). Nick's just woken up and is lying on the sofa (he took refuge there last night in order to get some sleep away from my cold-magnified snores) and I've just interrupted this to make him a cup of tea.

I did write a long post about teaching, trade unions, infamous parents, hangovers and earworms but then the computer ate it. Suffice to say it has been a busy week and I am looking forward to getting home. Unfortunately I have to pack the car and drive 70 miles before I get there.

Just heard that I have been short-listed for the Southampton jobs!

The interview is next Monday - they believe in giving you plenty of time to prepare. Letters went out on Friday: I haven't rec'd mine yet but phoned Soton's HR after a tip off that the shortlist had already been drawn up (got to love the librarians' network and friends of friends).

Amazing, I made it through to half past five. I haven't made such a huge dent in my flexi time afterall. I'm off home now for an hour or so before going out and doing an RT appraisal. My joy knows no bounds.

For some reason probably best known to my subconscious, I only put myself down for one graduation namely my department: Chemical Engineering. It is too hot and I feel shattered. Was in work for 7.20am today in order to clear out my office downstairs when it was cool.
