Last week I rec'd a changing mat I had bid on (£5 inc postage which was a pain as the seller only lived 5 miles away but had already posted when I suggested I'd collect). Changing mat was a Winnie the Pooh one, with a detachable towel, not that I really cared. a mat is a mat is a mat. Fast forward to last night when I won an auction for a moses Read more... )

*admires your fierce eBay competence*

Also, I love Winnie the Pooh. :D

What, please, is a 'top and tail' bowl?

And Brewed Awakenings has gorgeous coffee. Mmmmm. *sips coffee* Coffee. Yum. :D

Top and tail bowl: a completely unnecessary two part bowl which you can use when 'toping and tailing' (i.e. washing) your baby instead of giving them a full bath.

After weddings, I think having a baby is a honey pot for the sellers of unnecessary and overpriced goods. Bar the cot matress and car seat which we'll buy new for safety reasons, and possibly some new cloth nappies, we're planning to buy/borrow everything second, if not third, hand.

Used baby goods are the best bargains going--and you're quite right, there is NO reason not to buy them used! (It's not as though they're ever worn out, for heaven's sake--they're only used for a few months usually. :P) But yes, the car seat is a must-be-new item; fortunately, there are very few such. :)

Thanks for the link--I'm still not sure how it works, but it's interesting. (Do you just use water from one side to wash head/face and then water from other side to wash bottom? *is confused* I used to wash Sprog in the kitchen sink...)

Not entirely sure. It could be that one side is for water and the other for dropping your wet cotton wool into. As I said, totally unnecessary (and if it weren't for the fact that we have a small tound kitchen sink, I think a baby bath is fairly unnecessary as well). That said, now that I have one, I'll probably end up using it, although not necessarily for its oringal purpose :)

Our nursery is yellow and green, so the Winnie the Pooh stuff is perfect for us too! Baby M now has cot and crib sheets, curtains and a lampshade, all with the Pooh theme.

Jane made her own changing mats - at least for Kit. But I'm reminded that it would be nice if Kit's room was decorated to look more like a child's room, rather than a blank room with a cot and some toys in ...

top and tails are kinda useful til the cord falls off as you are recommended not to bathe them til then - increases chance of infection
but when I say kinda useful what I really mean is there is no way in Gods earth you'll use it afterwards and about a 1 in 4 chance you'll use it before

they are good in hosipital though when there is only one sink between about 5 people and you don't want to get your bed wet - but then hospitals tend to use pots with marker writing on saying top and tail

beyond not getting much new stuff would suggest that you probably don't really need much second hand stuff either - lookin gat some of the mags I get sent people obviosuly have huge houses still awaiting clutter and huge amounts of money burning holes
