A/N This is my first post for such a long time as RL has been hectic just recently.  I hope you all enjoy it.

A/N 2  This is for stevwil41 who's just started writing.  Go for it, you are good.

A/N 3  This has had to be posted in two parts LJ kept telling me that it was too large for one post.  Sorry.

“Gwen Cooper!  Morning Andy, what can I do for you?  “Oh, right, we erm….yeah we’ve noticed something happening….what….no….don’t you dare, Jack likes to make sure it’s not some kids fooling around….Stop right there….just hang on I want you to repeat that last bit when I’ve put you on speaker phone.”

Gwen rushed up to the board room where she knew the rest of the team were.  She’d been writing her report on the driver who’d crashed into her car when P.C. Andy’s phone call had come through.  Now she was bounding up to the board room, Jack definitely had to hear what Andy was saying.

Bursting through the door “Jack, guys, you have to hear what Andy’s got to say.”

“Why if it isn’t our friendly constable.  Andy how the devil are you?”

“Jack just shut up and listen.  For once can you cut out the sarcastic remarks.”

“Wow Ms Cooper we have got out of the wrong side of the bed, what’s up, or not in Rhys’s case.”

“Jack, shut the fuck up and listen.”  Gwen rarely swore, so Jack knew there was something seriously wrong.  “Sorry Gwen, I’m all ears.”

“Thank you.  Andy you still there?”  She placed her phone down on the table so everyone could hear and talk to Andy.

“Yeah Gwen I’m here.  From the shouting I gather your esteemed leader is there too?”

“Andy, just tell the rest what you’ve just told me.  And Andy….don’t leave anything out.”  She looked at Jack on that last comment.

Ianto noticed anger, sadness, maybe both in Gwen’s eyes, but as yet couldn’t understand why.

“Ok, are you sitting comfortably?  Then I’ll begin.”

“Andy!”

“Ok, ok, sorry.  Jack, I know from Gwen that you’ve been monitoring the warehouses on the edge of Splott!  Well we’ve had several odd reports come into us here at the station.”

Jack glared at Gwen, why are you discussing Torchwood business with PC Andy?

Gwen began “I didn’t….”

“Leave it Gwen we’ll talk about your little chats with PC Andy when I’ve heard what he has to say.  But I will tell you I’m not impressed.”

“Hey Captain Harkness!”  Andy shouted “don’t go blaming Gwen.  I rang her so….”

“So just get on with it and stop wasting our time.  I’m trying to monitor something in that same area.”

“Right….yeah….ok.  Well the reports we’ve had come through to us suggest that a storm appears inside the warehouse, lasts for about five minutes then disappears.”

“Yeah we’ve noticed that.  So what was important for you to contact Gwen?”

“Do you also know that when the storm subsides what is left in the area are red rose petals….lots of them!”

Jack was about to say something, when he felt Owen’s, Gwen’s and Tosh’s eyes on him.

“Jack….Jack, did you hear me?”

Jack went quiet.  “Yeah Andy I did….thanks….look, can I get back to you?”

“Sure Jack….” Before Andy had time to say anything else Jack had cut him off.

Looking at his team “what?  Why are you looking at me like that?”

Gwen was the first to spit her words out.  “They’re back aren’t they?  They want another child?”  The disgust was apparent on her face and Jack thought he saw hurt also.

Ianto had seen the look on all their faces, had seen Jack stiffen when Andy had mentioned rose petals, so he’d gone up behind his Captain, his lover, and placed his hands on his shoulders.  He felt Jack relax slightly at his touch, then one of Jack’s hands went over his and lightly squeezed.

“Oh how sweet, the child giver being comforted by the lover of a cyberman.”

“Owen, that’s all finished with….both incidents, so let’s just drop it.”

“Fine Jack, but don’t come crying to me when you’ve given another child away.  Oh sorry I forgot….tea boy here will help you get over it, won’t you?”  Owen couldn’t stand to be in the same room, so stormed out leaving everyone staring after him.

“So, go on Gwen, aren’t you going to add more of your venom into the mix?”  He looked at Gwen who for a split second held his gaze and then dropped her eyes to the floor.

“Tosh, have you not got anything to say either?”

“You know how I felt the last time Jack, you don’t need me to say it again.”

“Why not?  Owen has, Gwen not in so many words, come on give me the full treatment.”  He felt Ianto’s hands tighten on his shoulders.

“No Jack, I’m not going to remind you what you did, you’ve got to live with it.  But I will say I don’t want any part of it again if you’ve got to repeat the….the….”  She couldn’t say the words “then you’ll have to do it without me.”

“I know how you feel Tosh.”

“Do you Jack?  Do you really?”

“Believe me, if there could have been any other way….”

“For God’s sake, can you hear the pair of you?  Tosh you were as angry as the rest of us and Jack….well, you don’t have a compassionate bone in your body do you?”

“Gwen!”

“Oh sorry Ianto, well maybe he does for somethings, but you’re just as bad.  As Owen said you hid your cyber girlfriend from us for months, so why should we trust either of you?”

“How many more times do you all want me to apologise for that?  I’ve proved myself over and again.  Jack knows he can trust me.”

“Only because you’re in his bed every night.”

“GWEN!  Enough.  Now let’s not jump to conclusions, we need to go to the warehouse and check things out first before we can really say what’s going on.”

“Ok, so who do you suggest we send?  There’s a primary school in Splott, maybe….”

“ENOUGH!  Ianto and I will go to the warehouse on our own if you don’t trust us.  That way if anything happens you’ll be here to take over.  After all it’s what you wanted before isn’t it?  You remember after I went away that time you did soooo well at being boss.  Admit it you want it now don’t you?  You were reluctant to hand back, well that’s fine.  Come on Yan.”

“No Jack, look I’m sorry….ok?  I just don’t want to lose any more children.”

“Yeah, well neither do I and if there had been another way….”

“Yeah, I know.  Look, why don’t I come with you both and we can see what’s happening.”

“Great.  Yan go start the SUV, Tosh monitor things from here and when the good Doctor gets back have him on standby just in case.”

Tosh nodded, squeezed Jack’s arm and went back to her workstation.  Ianto kissed Jack’s neck and went to the SUV.  Gwen went down to the armoury for extra weapons, just in case.

They arrived at the warehouse to a group of people standing outside.  Jack made his way over to a guy in a suit.  “Good afternoon, Captain Jack Harkness.”  He held out his hand.  “we’ve had reports of something strange happening.  Can you tell us or point us in the direction of someone who can?”

“Afternoon Mr Harkness.”

“It’s Captain, but hey, no worries.”

“Sorry, erm Captain.  I’m Chris Carter, manager here.  Wow you certainly don’t look like the police.”

“No Mr Carter, we’re Torchwood.”

“Oh….right….yeah, I’ve heard of you.  So what’s this got to do with you lot?”

“Not sure yet Mr Carter, but we’re going to find out.  Now can you tell me what’s been happening?”

“Right….yeah. Sorry it’s just been rather a strange day so far and I’m guessing it’s going to get even stranger.”

“Well we’ll try not to disrupt too much.  Now can you explain what’s been happening?”

“Oh, well it happens every hour.  A wind blows up, started off quite mild but each time it happens it gets stronger.  Then the last couple of times these were left behind.”  He took his hand out of his pocket and handed the petals to Jack.

“Right Mr Carter, have any of your workers seen anything else that appeared….out of place?”

“No, nothing, just the gale force wind then these.  What’s happening Captain Harkness?  Can we go back to work?”

“I’m afraid not, not until we’ve made sure everything is safe in there.”

“Ok, I’ll erm….so I’ll tell my men….”

“Just tell them to go home and you’ll contact them when it’s safe.”  Jack left him to tell the workforce and went back to Ianto and Gwen to explain to them what was happening.

“Ok kids, no one has seen any fairies this time, they’re just leaving petals behind, so I don’t really know what they want….yet.  It’s going to happen again in the next few minutes, so what I suggest we do is this.  We go in there.”  He pointed to the warehouse, “we spread out, but keep comms open and whoever sees anything out of the ordinary shout and the rest of us will come running.”

“Are there any indications of how many there are?”

“No, so just be careful, have weapons ready and don’t be afraid to shoot first ask questions later.”

Gwen and Ianto nodded then followed Jack into the warehouse.  They split up and carefully searched behind and inside the equipment stored in the warehouse.  They were making their way to the office when they felt a wind gust.

“Jack, Jack do you feel that?  Where’s it coming from?”

“Not sure Gwen, just be careful.  Ianto do you see anything?”

“No Jack, just feeling the gusts.  What do you want us to do?”

“Just stay where you are, make sure you can hang on to something if it gets too bad.  Just….both of you….  Just be safe.”

“Jack, it’s getting stronger.”

“Yan I’m going to try and get a closer look, stay where you are.”

“But Jack….”

“No Ianto….need to keep you safe.”  Jack slowly made his way to the source of the wind.  As he approached the office a door appeared to open and he felt himself being dragged towards it.

“Jack, what’s happening?  What’s that light?”

“Not sure Ianto, going to have a look, you and Gwen stay where you are.”

“Be careful Jack.”

“Always, Yan, always.”

Jack carefully inched his way to the light, but before he could anchor himself to anything the wind grabbed him and whisked him through the doorway.

Ianto and Gwen had been watching from behind a crate when Ianto saw Jack moving.  He looked at Gwen.  “Jack’s not going to be able to stop if he doesn’t hold on to something.  I’m going….”

“No Ianto you know what Jack said.  Let him go.”

“NO!  You want him out of the way.  You never wanted him to come back.  You blame him still don’t you?  Blame him for Jasmine.  Well I don’t, and I’m not going to lose him, I love him.”

“You’re just as bad Ianto Jones, always thinking of yourself.”

“Shit Gwen, who was it that got you out of the mess in that village?  Remember, the cannibals?  It.  Was.  Jack!  He would never leave us.  And I’m not going to leave him.  Now are you coming to help or not?”

“You heard what Jack said, we have to stay here.”

“No!  I’m going to help.  I’m not going to lose him again.”

Gwen watched as Ianto ran after Jack.

“Jack, Cariad hold on I’m on my way.”

“No Ianto please stay where you are it’s dangerous.  The wind is so strong.”

“No Jack, I’m not going to….”

Before Ianto could finish his sentence the wind lifted Jack off his feet and hurtled him through the door.”

“JACK!  NO!”

Ianto stood open mouthed as Jack disappeared and the door closed.  He dropped to his knees screaming Jack’s name, his arms wrapped around himself.  He rocked backwards and forwards as tears streamed down his face.

Gwen saw the door close, heard Ianto’s cries of despair and ran to where Ianto had dropped.

“Ianto, hey Ianto, come….”

“Get off me.  You’ve got what you wanted, Jack’s gone, you can take over now.”

“Ianto.”  She spoke calmly, “Ianto you know that’s not what I want.  I want Jack….”

“Yeah we all see how you look at him, wanting him in your bed.  Well hard luck PC Cooper, he’s mine and I’m his and nothing is ever going to change that.  So get over it!”  Ianto stood up and headed out to the SUV leaving Gwen staring after him.

They drove back to the Hub in silence.  Gwen not really knowing what to say after Ianto’s outburst, and Ianto not wanting to talk at all.  He needed to find Jack, needed to be able to hold him again.  He wasn’t going to lose him again, not now, not ever.

Ianto pulled the SUV into the underground car park, switched off the engine and stared out of the window.  Gwen went to put her hand on his arm which he pulled away as if it had touched a live electric current.

“Don’t touch me.”

“But Ianto I….”

“I don’t want to hear it.  I’m going to find out what Tosh monitored then I’m going to get Jack back.  I don’t care what I have to do, I need him to be ok.”

“We all do Ianto, but….”

“Don’t give me that line.  He’s going to come back whether you like it or not.”  He left Gwen to lock up the SUV.

He arrived back in the Hub to find Tosh and Owen staring at her computer screen.  “Tosh, talk to me, what have we got?”

“Since when did you take charge tea boy?”

“Shut up Owen, Jack’s gone I need to know how I’m going to get him back.”

“Are we sure he’ll want to come back.”

Ianto pounced.  He drew his fist back, grabbed hold of Owen’s collar, was just about to thump him when he stopped.  Dropped his hands and sat down.

“What are we fighting for?  We need to concentrate, get Jack back.  Tosh have you found out anything?”

Owen stared open mouthed at Ianto, he’d never seen him this fired up.  He was sure he was going to hit him.  And, if he was truthful he deserved it.  He looked across to Tosh.  “Tell him Tosh, tell him what you’ve found.”

Jack didn’t know what had happened, just that the wind had taken him through the door, now he was waking up back in the warehouse.  His head hurt, it felt like he’d been ten rounds with a weevil.  He sat up slowly, quick movements hurt his head.  He tapped his comms, “Ianto, Gwen where are you?”  Nothing.  He tried again.  “Tosh, Owen, what’s happening, any news about Ianto and Gwen?”  Nothing.  He reached for his mobile, no signal.  He looked again at his hand, there was a deep cut on the back and it was still bleeding.  Why?  This shouldn’t be happening.  He checked his other hand, more cuts. Why weren’t they healing?  He stood slowly, making his way into the sunlight, but no, it had gotten dark.  Where was everyone?  He knew he had to get back to the Hub, get Owen to check him over.  He tried his mobile again outside, still no signal.  Slowly so as not to aggravate his wounds, he began to walk back to the Hub.
