Please, no! You can't do it that way. "major lack of judgment and foresight" notwithstanding! He would never have done that, he knew she was pregnant, and he didn't MAKE Ianto come with him, Ianto insisted! Find another way! Make him go alone! Make him take someone else, to spare Ianto, but Jack would never have sacrificed Gwen knowingly.

Thanks,

That's the guilt talking. Of course Jack didn't knowingly sacrifice Gwen but now in hindsight he's wondering if his subconscious told Ianto no and took Gwen for her negotiating skills.

I don't blame Rhys for being angry, but that's lack of foresight for you. It's easy to realise you shouldn't have done something when it's too late. Jack probably feels even worse because there's that little voice inside saying "I'm so glad it wasn't Ianto who dies."

Thanks.

That is exactly what Jack is feeling, he's got,Ianto and Gwen is gone.

A good alternate but I've got bones to pick. One, Rhys would have been allowed ONE punch; Jack has to get over that damn 'I-gotta-make-the-Doctor-proud-I'm-being-responsible' guilt trip'. Two, if he hadn't been blown up by Johnson and then buried in concrete, I do believe Jack would have thought this through a hell of a lot better. Once he realized who the aliens were and remembered what the aliens did last time, he'd take better precautions; he might not have been deeply involved in planning action the last time, but knowing the children were targets, I think he'd handle it differently this time. Third, I can't blame him for wanting to keep Ianto safe but the monstrousness of the government's collusion in killing Jack and the others on the Blank Paper to keep the situation a secret is far more to blame than Jack ever will be. Rhys has been around Torchwood long enough to know the job is dangerous and has to suspect that Gwen harbors her own little secret fantasies about Jack. I don't believe Jack would push Gwen to follow him ( ... )

Thank you.

I'm staring to think my use of the word made, really gave this story a different feel than I intended. I don't believe Jack made Gwen come, but meant more as timelordshines said, that after after Ianto said he was coming , Jack said no and them Gwen offered and he said no too, but Gwen being Gwen did not listen.

I like what you've said and I like the story but I think we all know Gwen doesn't and has never really listened to Jack and would have forced her way to do this. Whether it was Ianto or Gwen, it doesn't matter; Torchwood could not have foreseen what the aliens would do nor did they know about the government collusion. Frobisher and Company are the only ones who really are to blame for this and should carry that guilt It clarifies your last line about guilt. If I may say, though, don't second-guess yourself with this story. With all that happened leading up to the Thames House debacle, especially with what happened to Jack being blown up to kill him, I truly believe he has no reason whatsoever to feel guilty about what happened. I still believe Rhys is wrong to blame Jack; he is very much aware how headstrong Gwen was.

Very good!
I doubt Jack made Gwen go. More likely he ordered both her and Ianto to stay behind, but Ianto listens to orders, Gwen doesn't.
I can understand why Rhys would blame Jack though, even if it wasn't his fault. And why Jack would blame himself. He will carry that guilt forever, but Ianto will be there to help him deal with it.

Thanks. Now that I look at it, maybe made was a poor word choice. I didn't mean he forced Gwen to go, but it's more like you said.

And Jack is surly glad Ianto did not go.
