Anthony sat alone on the couch. Kalel was gone for the weekend, and everything was quiet. He got up to grab a drink when he noticed that the sky was darkening from it's usually bright blue state. He decided to put it aside as he sat down on the sofa and began watching television.
After a few hours of staring endlessly at the screen, he heard whistling coming from his windows. The roaring wind somehow managed to get in between the crack and cause the creepy sound. He tried to ignore it, but it kept getting louder. His mind began to drift off into memories of stormy nights in high school with Ian.
Anthony found it hard to concentrate with the heavy rain hitting against the empty house. The sky flashed and thunder sounded loudly, making him gasp. He got up from his spot on the couch and grabbed his cell phone. The number he dialed came with much familiarity to him.
"Hello?"
"Hey Ian!"
"Hey man, what's up?"
"Well, Kalel is out of town so it's kinda lonely here. Plus, there is a storm passing by and you know I hate being alone during a storm."
"Are you saying you want me to come over?"
"Yeah"
"Ok dude, be there soon."
Anthony hung up the phone and set it on the table where it rested only moments ago. While he waited for Ian, his mind began to wander back to previous stormy nights. They happened years ago, but were still fresh in his mind.
"Dude, you know we can't film boxman in the rain! It will get all soggy and gross."
Anthony sighed in frustration. They hadn't posted a new video in weeks, and he didn't want to put it off anymore.
"Yeah, I guess you're right, but as soon as it's over, we are getting straight to filming!"
"Okay, it's only 11:20, it should be over before dark."
The two boys spent the afternoon goofing off and thinking of new video ideas.
"It's 4:30 now, and it hasn't stopped raining. I think we should just film tomorrow. Plus, i've been here all day, and I am kinda getting tired of your face." Ian snickered at his insult.
"Haha, real funny." Anthony rolled his eyes dramatically to make sure Ian saw.
"I guess i'll go now." Ian said, rising to his feet.
"Wait, didn't you walk here before the storm started?"
It only took a second for Ian to realize that going home now wouldn't be a good idea.
"Oh yeah, umm is it okay if i stay until the storm is over?" Ian said, scratching the back of his head.
"Yeah, of course." Anthony replied.
His thoughts were cut short when there was a knock at the door. He got up lazily, and opened to door to a wet and smiling Ian. A smile krept onto Anthony's face as he gestured for him to come inside.
"You know you're a pussy for being scared of a storm, right?"
"Asshole." was all that Anthony could say.
Ian made himself comfortable on the couch and he pat the spot next to him. Anthony walked over to the empty spot, and sat down. Having Ian next to him really made him feel secure, more secure than when Kalel is clinging onto his arms, cuddling on the couch.
After about fifteen minutes of just watching t.v., thunder roared throughout the sky. It was the loudest it has been since the storm started. Anthony screeched and instinctively grabbed onto Ian's arm. After he realized what he was doing, he quickly let go and sat up straight. Ian chuckled to himself.
"Sorry dude, instinct."
"It's okay man, you used to do that all the time in high school."
After he said that, memories flooded back to both of them. He hadn't meant to bring them back, but he had anyway. The smile was erased from Ian's face as he drifted off into memories.
"Ian, this storm is really starting to freak me out." Anthony said, slowly curling up into a ball.
"Come on dude, you're such a wimp! Let's just watch some t.v. to help get your mind off of it."
They both made their way to the couch, plopping on it. Ian grabbed the remote and turned on the television. The screen lit up as the picture came into view. A romantic movie was playing on the channel it was set on. The scene that was playing was a couple kissing in the rain. It always happens like that in movies. Why rain? When realistically, it makes things worse. Not at all romantic.
Ian held the remote so it faced the cable box, but hesitated to press any buttons.
"Gonna change the channel or what...?" Anthony's voice trailed off.
"Don't you think it'd be nice?" Ian said, not moving his eyes from the couple in the rain.
"Huh?" Anthony said, confused.
"To have a moment like this with someone you love."
"Yeah I guess, but rain doesn't seem very fitting for a romantic kiss." Anthony said truthfully.
"I think it would be romantic, but maybe it's just like that in movies."
Suddenly, a crazy idea popped into Anthony's head. He had never thought like this before, but it was exciting. He knew he had to say it.
"Do you want to find out?" Did he really just say that?
"huh?" Ian replied, obviously confused.
"If you really want to find out if kissing in the rain is romantic, then why not try it?" He said nervously fumbling with his hands.
"W-with you?" The shorter boy questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"y-yeah, only if you want to..." Anthony replied nervously.
"Umm, ok..."
Anthony noticed a shimmer in Ian's eyes that he hadn't noticed before. He stood up off of the couch and extended his hand. Ian smiled and grabbed ahold of it.
Both of the boys' flashbacks were disturbed by a loud boom of thunder that sounded in their ears. It startled Anthony, and he seized Ian's arm again. This time he un-intentionally stayed there longer than necessary. He realized what he was doing, and laughed nervously as he sat back up again. They both directed their gaze back to the television, but neither of them were actually paying attention to it. Ian and Anthony were too busy reminiscing on that one stormy night.
Anthony lead Ian to the front door. When they stepped outside, they were both soaked immediately. Anthony, still holding onto Ian's hand, pulled him into the middle of his front lawn. He stopped and faced Ian, dropping his hand. He didn't look confused nor scared, but relaxed.
They took a minute to really look into each other's eyes, not speaking. It was Ian who made the first move. He placed his right hand on the back of Anthony's head, ruffling his hair. Anthony moved one hand to Ian's cheek, and the other onto his lower back. Ian put his remaining hand on Anthony's hip. Anthony leaned in, closing his eyes. Ian mirrored his actions.
When their lips met, they both felt electricity. Neither of them felt like it was wrong to be kissing their best friend so passionately. Their lips moved against each other in a steady rhythm. When they finally pulled away, they kept their foreheads pressed together. Both of them had rain dripping off of their noses, onto their lips.
"I guess kissing in the rain really is romantic." Anthony whispered.
"I guess so." Ian replied, leaning in for another.
Both of their thoughts ended, leaving smiles on their faces. They both knew that they were thinking about the same thing. Anthony had an idea.
He stood up and extended his hand, just as he had done six years ago. Ian smiled and grabbed it, pulling himself up. They made their way to the front door, and soon out of it. The rain hit their skin with such gentleness. It was so comforting to both of the boys.
They stopped in the middle of the front lawn, gazing at each other. Anthony noticed a shimmer in Ian's eyes that he had only noticed once before. The taller man cupped the other's cheek and pulled him in. When their lips made contact, it felt just as amazing as when they were young. The outside world seemed to disappear around them. Nothing else existed at that moment. Time stood still. The boys pulled away, not leaving each other's eye contact. Their noses were touching and their hands were still placed on each other.
"I guess we could call this our own romantic movie." Anthony whispered, once more kissing his best friend.
SORRY IF IT SUCKS! My mom is rushing me right now, so I didn't get to proof- read.
