It's been a while since I watched it, but I think the key is when Gil watches Adrianne during La Belle Epoque and realizes that no matter the gauze through which they view a nostalgic age, people belong in the age in which they are born, as demonstrated by his so readily hooking up with Gabrielle upon his return to 2010 Paris.

Yes, he says something like that in the film. I'm just wondering if the line is a cop-out for his decision to return home; as if the movie required him to wind up in his natural time, so he has to justify it.

It does seem to come from out of côté gauche du terrain when he says it. Nothing to that point shows any movement towards that viewpoint until his statement to Adrienne.

Enjoyed it. Of the films nominated for the Nebula, it isn't my first choice (that would be Source Code), but I didn't feel like I wasted the time I spent watching it.
