Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure is Excellent

I meant, since they've covered the Truman route, and you say you want to go on a road trip of your own, what about finding another route another president took and taking that, and writing about it.

Ah, I understand. It's something to keep in mind. But one of the things that makes the book interesting is the fact that it may chronicle the only such Presidential road trip. When Hoover retired in 1933, such road trips were far less common, and he didn't take one. Neither did Coolidge in 1929, and before him, it was Wilson who retired in 1921. After Truman, Eisenhower's retirement in 1961 was the last without round-the-clock Secret Service protection, but Eisenhower didn't go driving. Once we get into the Secret Service era, such road trips are no longer possible.

Guess I'll have to find some other Presidential journey, not a post-Presidential road trip, to make my own.
