Somewhat related to what you mentioned, I can have any conversation I want with you, it seems; and because of the distance, it's a nice break from my own life. Hearing about others' drama is incredibly gratifying! Also similar, you're one of the longer-lasting friends of mine; most of my friendships seem to just fade away after a year or two, and that's not really happened with you.
Oh, and if my quotes above along the lines of "like you said" didn't hint at this, it's delightful to have someone who seems to think somehow similarly to me, even if I can never quite figure out how.
And plus, you put up with my nutty idiosyncrasies for a full weekend and let me sleep on your couch in the process! How could I not love you?
Anyway. You hang out in chat with me! That by itself pretty much makes you awesome. I <3 fellow internet degenerates.
... probably not what you were looking for. Um.
Not to diminish the rest of the spam-n-teabaggers *bows in their directions*, but you're probably the closest of my writing buddies. Whether it's NaNo and I'm stressing you out quite a bit more than is probably kosher or the rest of the year when we can alternate whining about whatever, whenever, and in doing so not actually getting around to the writing we should be doing, you tend to be the person I think of first in the writing group --- and coming back to the chat, you're the most available when I feel inclined to link random cool Slashdot articles or copy funny quit messages or just sit around complaining about how bad I am at Solitaire.
When I think of you, the first few things I tend to associate, in approximate order: Ireland, Writing, DDR, long drive. No matter how far away you live, it seems every time I hang out with you, I have fun! Your house is the place where we have movie nights and holiday parties and DDR and music swaps (the one we did, anyway), and Ren Faire is excellent with the perspective of one who worked there. You're probably a major influence on the fact I'm just now starting a story involving Merlin (main setting: Selkirk, Scotland), and you seem to have great taste in music, from what I've taken.
I love all the random, cool things you are and do. I love that you can simultaneously be nutty about Ireland and listen to TaQ; write children's stories and paste a picture of a pigeon saying "you gonna get raped" at the end of a Sesame Street book; play DDR and resolutely write with pad and paper every week; and all the other cool things you do, whether or not they seem to make sense with anything else you do.
You're one of the most interesting resources on all sorts of things; between sexuality and religion, you're a quite different perspective in several philosophical areas I'm quite interested in. Plus, you're one of the few people I can talk to about computers (usually computer science) and occasionally get out-knowledge-d. It's a good feeling. And on top of all that academic stuff, you're also, well, the fabulous gay guy! You're always the most excited when you're excited, the most empathetic when you're empathetic, and undeniably the best dancer in the group. Shake that ass, baby! ;)
Well, as you mentioned, we haven't really had much time to get to know each other --- but you've certainly started off well in my book! You're definitely one of the better role-players (at least in my opinion) in the D&D game (which has to say something about who you are everywhere else); and hey --- anyone Dave likes that much has to be pretty awesome. You do all those sweet little productivity and organization things I've always tried (and typically failed)... and you're coming to Tucson!
I guess the biggest thing I love you for is the potential --- even though I don't know you yet, you seem like more than an excellent choice for a new friend, and I love that! I don't meet very many people who come across so well straight away.
