LOL I often forget he exists, too! I actually forgot to write him into TPM (the scene when Elle meets up with the team again for the first time)--nobody ever mentions him! So I was like "oh shit I have to include Will" and threw in a brief bit where JJ tells Elle she's engaged lol.
I am not hatin' because I ship JJ/Emily. I ain't born yesterday; I know JJ/Em will never be canon so hating on a any canon couple that blocks them is an exercise in pointlessness.
Well I despise JJ/Emily (you know why), and even I don't like this pairing. This literally was a forced relationship. I also agree with woodchoc, I never liked Will in "Jones" and I hate "In Heat". Oh god that episode played their relationship like something from a romance novel where they have difficulty but at the end "love" brings them together. Of course the biggest problem with that is that those romance novels we got to see the two people getting together, while this we never saw it. It's basically: me - "why should I care if they break up?" and writers - "it's true love alright, just go with it".
And as mentioned, it doesn't help that Will as a character sucks and the relationship is both contrived and such a non presence that I forget JJ isn't single at times.
Honorable fanon mention: Any Reid pairing. You know you could have added a canon

I do not blame you for despising JJ/Em, dude. I think the only reason I don't is b/c I found myself starting to and took a step back from the fandom, which helped a lot. I do like canon!JJ and canon!Emily but the fanon versions can GTFO

I wish it was that easy for me, but two years of mental scars are really going to take their toll. While I'm fully aware Crappy Poser isn't even A.J. Cook, thus the pairing has absolutely no interest in me, it's impossible to even think of JJ/Emily without those two faildom creations coming to mind.
Writing my altverse is difficult b/c I find myself wanting to make these characters change and evolve and not suck so hard.
But it won't be faildom world if the characters don't suck and there isn't an overwhelming bias towards the unholy trinity. Then again, to be technical, as characters the unholy trinity sucks too.
I'll be interested to find out what that dark twist of Emily Sue's is. Does it have anything to do with some of my parody ideas?
who wants to write about fanon!Reid,
The answer to this is rather obvious.
oh I forgot, alt!Morgan's supposed to be a prize for Garcia. Silly. Garcia is the prize for Morgan. She's a goddess, remember? It's like Emily Sue

I think my biggest problem with Will/JJ is that JJ never seems to really love him or want to be with him. She doesn't want to tell the team she's pregnant. She didn't want to tell Will. She looks MORTIFIED when Will shows up acting all proud!daddy-like. I just feel like everything steamrolled for her, and before she knew it, she couldn't get rid of him. She doesn't want to be the bitch that breaks up with her baby's daddy.
That's the impression I got as well. Rewatching some of the scenes to cap them for this strengthened this feeling (like in Lo-Fi--could JJ look less happy to see him?) But then in S5, they're painted as a happy family, and I get so confused. I'm really disappointed at the lack of exploration of this relationship; it's like they went from 0 to happy family overnight. Just another example of how low JJ was on the writers' list of priorities.
BTW Cat, if you're curious to check out No Ordinary Family, you should know that Josh Stewart aka Will aka CM cop of the week with bad Orleans accent aka whats his name is a recurring guest star on the show. Most recently his character attended a blind date with Autumn Reeser's character where he went as a made up person super son pretended to be online (long story). Oddly enough the online name super son went by was Will. So Josh's character is now going by the name Will. Yeah I don't know what were the odds.
Fortunately Josh's character is a villain who's only dating Autumn's character to stay close to Julie Benz and her superfamily. So at least we aren't suppose to like the character and know the relationship isn't going to go anywhere (hopefully).
No, totally. I remember "In Heat," and I was like, "Huh. They gotta get JJ a baby daddy, so I guess they just picked Will..." It was so silly.
Having said that, with the exception of a few AUs I have going, I always put JJ with Will in my fic. And I have at least one JJ/Will ficlet...in my effort to make their relationship more real and less "baby daddy needed on set, stat!"
That's an interesting approach, not one I'm used to seeing lol (but most of the JJ-centric fic I read is in the femslash comm, who either ignore Will or make him into some kind of asshole/abuser). I ship JJ with Emily, and I think it'd make much more sense to write Will out in a way that jives with failegaidin's comment above--that it all happened too fast and as they get to know each other, the cracks start to form. It's realistic and doesn't paint Will as this total asshole, just someone JJ wasn't meant to be with. If I were going to write a JJ-centric fic I'd definitely try to flesh this relationship out more (definitely food for thought in my latest long fic, in which JJ will play a bigger role than my last and so far only long fic).
