I'm watching my purse so closely at the moment, so I'm going to download a cam version later. I'd love to see it on the big screen, but I just can't afford it.
I've never seen anything of Star Trek, I thought I should before I saw the movie, but I completely forgot. See how I feel after the movie.
I'm sorry you can't see it on the big screen, because IMO it's one of those movies you have to experience that way... I'm so glad I did! (But then, I did go with my Dad, a fellow Trekkie, so he paid for it).
I don't think it will matter if you don't know anything about Star Trek. Granted, I've had this stuff ingrained in my head since I was a kid, but I don't think you'll be confused or anything like that. Most reviews on rotten tomatoes praised the movie for being accessible to non-Trekkies.
When does Santa Cruz get out? I was already planning on asking one of my SC friends to see it after she gets out, so that we can celebrate Star Trek in its role in the rise of slashfic.
My last day of finals is June 11, I believe. Although, there's always the possibility of one of my friends forcing me to go with them to see it before that date. I have Trekkie friends.
But Star Trek or not, we should see a movie together. Or do something. I'm down.
Yeah, because it'll be another week before I leave for France. I still probably won't have a car, but it should be easy enough to be like "HEY MOM I'M GOING TO BORDERS BE BACK IN LIKE FIVE HOURS" and we can find someplace to meet up. There's a Caltrain station I can walk to.
The movie was pretty great. Urban nailed Bones pretty well and Chris Pine is gonna be a huge star. I have to say though without giving away spoilers, I thought the cameo and the storyline of how it waas to be was JJ succumbing to fanboy fear. He should feel comfortable enough creating his own Star Trek timeline without having to acknowledge some sort retcon of sorts.
Also, was I the only one waiting for Simon to hit the screen?
But overall a great movie and Pine and Urban shined like the sun.
Im penning my dream sci-fi cult genre sitcom project starring Chris Fine and Kristin Kreuk as I speak (It'll get picked up! lol). New Kirk is a star in the making.
But getting back to the cameo part. Like I said, I felt like JJ and the writers were a little scared of presenting there imaging of Star Trek. Like you dont have to make an alternate universe. Sure the franchise has 40 years of timelined mythology but I think everyone got that this was a fresh start of sorts. Them fanboys aint hurting nothing!
I see what you're saying. As a longtime trekkie, I see what JJ was trying to do so in a sense he sort of copped out by creating an "alternate reality" scenario. But Trek fans are intense (trust me, I know), and they would've flipped shit if he had thrown down continuity and danced a jig upon it. I think it was important to him that he create something that would appeal to both hardcore trekkies and new fans.
idk if you watch Lost, but the whole time travel/alternate reality was very Lost-ish to me, so I'm not surprised JJ went that route.

Anton Yelchin is a hottie, too, but he's probably like a zygote to you.

I was waiting for Scotty/Simon as well. I was actually like "yeaaahhhh Scotty!" when he finally showed up.
I was expecting Chris Fine to be... well, fine, but Urban took me by surprise. A very pleasant one. Unf.
