November on the North Coast, #37

November has been balmy in comparison to October this year but certainly fall is in the air. All deciduous trees are bare now and everybody has raked leaves probably for the last time. Lawns are cut low and very green. Jackets are hung by the back door, eager to be donned.

This past week has been gorgeous with lots of sunshine and fairly clear, cold ( Read more... )

I guess the hawk has saved you some money on bird feed, huh?

"I wish Tim'd washed the windows at MAH house!" Actually, I need all the crud on my windows to keep the heat OUT. Well, except for the one in the family room.

A hawk flew next to my bus the other day... at the same speed and everything. I nearly ran off the road watching him. His head looked reddish and was a clear contrast to the rest of his body. But I was seeing the bottom side of him. I haven't looked him up yet to see if I could ID him.

I miss you. : (

The feeders were out & full but devoid of little takers so yes I guess we saved $$$ but that's no fun...poor birdies.

It's hard to identify hawks unless you see a lot at the same time for comparison...and then the immatures & adults from the same species look so different...so like I said, it's hard.

Did you see the CBS evening news report about the increasing numbers of bird-watchers, esp in the baby boomer generation? How would you like to open your own WBU franchise in Fredericksburg? Can I help? We'd make a mint...

I miss you too. : (

No, I didn't see that! But isn't that interesting?! Hmmm. Did they say why?

(I need a user pic for posts about birds, don't I?)

I can't remember but probably something about the boomers retiring and looking for something different to do with all their spare time.

Yes you need another user pic...and so do I but you need to find it for me cuz I don't know how. A Bombycilla c would be nice even if it's not a Sitta.

Now what about my idea for opening a WBU franchise in Fred'burg? Doesn't that appeal?
